got the old bearing off and the new bearing in my hand. wondering what the best way to put this new one on, since it won't just slide....
heat it up?
hammer it on?
grease?
Any input will be helpful.

Don't use heat on a new bearing. Also, before you remove the old bearing, take a measurement of the end of the bearing to the end of the shaft. Since you took the bearing out, I believe Cat uses a spec of 4.1 inches. Also, I think Cat recommends green loctite be used although I didn't. Since it's press fit, you can get it pressed in or you can try this (it worked for me last fall). Bust up the old bearing until you just have the inner race. Slide the new bearing on as far as it will go and then slide the old race on the shaft too. Then go to a vise and tighten it just enough so that the jackshaft will slide between the jaws but the old race won't. Get a good block of wood and a hammer. Rap the wood against the other end of the shaft so the old race is against the vice and the shaft can slide between the jaws. You might scratch some paint but if you are careful it does work. You'll then just need to work to remove the old race from the shaft. If you had to, you could heat the old race and tap it out or you could cut it off with a die grinder.
