I have a chance to get a xcr 800 motor for my sled (xcr 700)
the 700 gave up after 9500 miles. Lower crank seal, cost to fix
could run up to $2200. That was the first quote.

both are 1999s' and the 800 has 2800 miles on it " what the spedo
says???" it was a bank repo and it does run.

Should I be worried about tickets, insurance
having a 800 under a 700 hood?????

the cowel is broken and the seat is shot

the rest I can part out to get some money back

Thanks for any info

Tickets .
Your the one squeezing the flipper, the 700 or 800 are very capable of breaking the speed limit.

Insurance.
Himmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Whats wrong with the 700 besides the crank seal? Probably piston, rings, and a renic.

I have a 99 xcr 800 bottom end for sale, with new crank seals, new pto bearings, checked for straight and 120 degrees apart.

Need more to the story on your engine, $2200 seems high.
Can yo do engine work yourself?

What do they want for the repo sled?

Bank repo ...... not to sure but money or lack there of I guess

well at 9500 miles they "the shop" suggests replacing the pistons
and redoing the cans.

800cc under the hood and the ownership says 700cc

Thanks

sorry didn't read that correct earlier .......

$2200 is for every thing , but I can save $500
if I re and re the motor myslef.

The 700 is not out yet but the deal for the 800 has come up

today $1500 aprox. and the rest of the 800 xcr

would be used to be parted out .

Is there any visible differences on the 700 and 800 engines at all? like different colored head covers?

www.partsland.com

You can compare all the parts of a 700 to 800 with part numbers.

For sure piston, rings, jugs, heads, ignition will be different.

I think the only way to tell a 700 from a 800 xcr is the Model number code on the ID sticker on the recoil. And maybe if someone knew the casting number on the side of the jugs.

Go to parts land
click on snowmobile parts
scroll down to 1999
last 2 sleds are 700 xcr,800 xcr

On the heads around the spark plugs the 700 will say 70 and the 800 will say 79. Motor will bolt in just fine. Use the 800 carbs or atleast use the jets etc. Make sure you use the 800 CDI box. They are calibrated differently. Use the clutch setup from the 800 (Both clutches). Use the lower gear from the 800. Everything else will be fine.

Murray I'd go the rebuild route if was you. You know nothing about the internal shape, or history of the 800 motor, but you'll know everything about your 700, once done it'll be a brand new motor ready for another 10,000 miles :div20:

And we both know if a guy lost something due to repo, preventive matenace and care was the last thing on his mind

Yeah, mine too! I have a 700 twin in mine, was a 600 triple from the factory. I don't know of any laws saying you can't do that to a snowmobile. That's the last thing I'm worried about honestly
