My sled went for a swim and my insurance company totaled it andwould not allow me to buy it back so now I'm in the market for another ZR. I'm sceptical about the Diamond Drive holding up with higher hp motors especially when you hook them up on ice. Anyone out there with a substantial amount of ice time on a Diamond Drive sled with 180+ hp. I'm curious if they will hold up to the added torque from hp and hook. I'm not sure which way to go. I liked the smoothness and quick acceleration of the DD but was not satisfied with top end. It did have great trail manners. If I felt more comfortable with the durability of the DD on ice I may stay with DD. Chain drive may be the more logical choice though. Any opinions guys?

If course this is not confirmed. But DD are supposed to be rated to handle 300 HP.

Personally I would think chain cases are more vunerable to failure on ice. There is too much play and the absorbed energy once released is higher.

BUT!!! Replacing a chain is always cheaper than a DD.

Your call!!

mine slipped because the collar loosened up,after looking things over the set up is durable enough (personal opinion).just need to keep up with making sure it is put together correct.if you dont keep up with changing chains they will break and make a real mess.mines for sale(trying to buy land)
91B x 76S x 8100RPM
220 HP on Diamond Drive.
NO probs...............yet...

I run over 300 HP only on ice, with a chain/chaincase, zero problems.

running 15 wide chain/gears?
you wont have case failure, but if you
are hooking up,you are twisting shafts.
been there,left that.
Diamond Drive all the way.

One of ron Hunyady's 990 Kits (190+hp and 130ft lbs of torque) is in a DD sled with no problems. In fact it really pulls hard in the middle and Ron figures that it must be because of the DD transferring more power. 180hp in a DD system shouldn't be any problem.

in all reality,H.P. isnt going to kill anything, its the torque.
you could put 500 H.P. to any drive and be ok,but if
you put 500lbs. of torque to it........ :4th1:
i read reports from black diamond in the summer of `02
where they tested the diamond drive with an electric motor
and it took 183lbs. of torque before it broke the drivers off the drive shaft.
the drive took it,but the plastic drivers grenaded.
