How are the gas prices around the state right now? I filled up yesterday here in Cedarville.....2.87 a gallon for 87 octane. Just read an online article saying the price per gallon could easily go over 3.25 during the summer travel months. Not good!

Does the cost of gas affect your summer travel plans, or do you think it will have an effect on the snowmobile industry for next year?
DBS4SNO
$2.65 - $2.69 for 87 octane around me.

I'll probably make fewer camping trips this summer and make them closer to home.

For sledding - probably 2 to 3 long weekends.
polaris girl
$2.68 in Chesterfield for octane.

I just went to Cadillac this weekend to pull my trailer/snowmobiles home. Cost me $130 in gas in my Suburban.

Looks like I'll be sitting home in the pool more this summer than traveling.

As far as snowmobiling, we'll have to make longer trips.
Cat King Trail Boss
Ouch! $2.59 / for 87 here in Toledo. Summer is coming so look out.

Good thing GM Put all of their time, money and effort in devloping new SUV's and trucks. They'll sell good this summer.
Rev, M&S
Here in Sask. its $1.05 per liter...Thats $4.77 per gallon....Good thing sled season is over....They are saying its going to hit $1.50 per liter this summer.....A good way to kill tourism.....
polaris girl
I heard it's $1.89 in Las Vegas

I f gas pices keep rising through out the summer my camping trips will be few and close to home. IF it gets to $3.25 a gallon Iwill just camp in the driveway!

I have received 2 e-mails reguarding don't buy from Exxon/Mobile to force the gas prices down. At first I thought it wouldn't work because they will sell the base product down the pipeline to the next bid. But if they start losing profit at the convenience stores it will have some effect. By way of comparison look what happened to Wendy's food chain over a hoax, for now I will play along and buy my fuel elsewhere and have some hope that the prices will drop. dunno.gif

Summer travel plans HaHa! I have to work side jobs all summer to pay for the winter habit.
I hope it hits 4-$5.00 a gallon then maybe this country will grow some balls instead of taking it and really do something about it.

I think your onto something here. It needs to get high enough that people just sit and spend no money instead of conditioning us for the high prices. Looks like the 'ol Contour will be making the trips up north this summer at 32MPG.

I'm with green team. I have a 98 taurus I drive everyday and to the cabin etc.. unless I need my truck to haul something. (99 v-10 superduty crew cab) I had to drive it to the cabin this weekend as I have a 69 road runner up there that is going to the resto shop this weekend. YEP $98.00 to run to Hale and back. By the way green team I was over at an auction at Sage lake last weekend. Kevin

Find anything good? Hoping to run up to Sage in the next couple weeks to put in the dock and hoists.

Holy Crap, there was a guy on the news this morning that said the price of a barrel of oil would probably rise to over $100 in the next year! That would put the pump price at over $4 a gallon for regular. Can you imagine? Between the tourist industry and the auto industry, that will be another nail in Michigan's coffin.
YOO
I know you are not going to believe this, but this is the HONEST TO GOD truth, when I spoke at a Tourism Hearing a couple weeks ago at Northern Michigan University, the State Rep from that area said how he thinks our state needs to INCREASE the State Gas Tax! No BS...Can you imagine that, when gas prices in the Western UP are at 2.89/gallon Regular, you want to INCREASE the State Gas Tax!
I reminded him that for years Snowmobilers and ATV Riders have been paying the State Gas Tax and getting ZERO of that money back.
Minnesota drops the State Gas Tax when the cost of gas hits a certain "high point.' They do this to increase tourism and travel. I'm going to Minnesota this weekend and believe it or not I'm going to take 7-6 gallon jugs with me and fill them up. It's not to save the $12.00 in gas, it's to support that state.
I hate reading where many of you are saying you're going to travel less...sure hope that doesn't mean you're going to come to the UP less.
Heck if you want, I'll sell you a 10 BR/3 Bath "Deer Camp" House for $20,000. Then come up and bring all your friends...just make sure you don't stop coming up to the UP!
Gotta go now, and fuel up my Gremlin.

You know, some of us kid and joke about all of this, but in reality the high fuel prices are going to kill the Northern Michigan economy. Our town here exists soley on tourism, and it's obvious to even the most casual observer that since gas started shooting up a few years back tourism has been way down.

Scuba Steve runs a marina here in town, and I can bet he'd confirm a huge downturn in fuel sales at the gas docks over the past few years.

Why don't you list their name so we can vote them out of office.

I know our town here lives on summer people .. and the very little we still see in winter .....But People are slowing down FAST. People dont come up just for a short Weekend anymore its either a week or not at all., Our little stores here are batteling to stay open.

Gas here is 2,78 a gal. Thats the cheap stuff!
We sold the sleds last year because of gas going higher and higher.
Looks like were gonna sell the dirtbikes soon trau14.gif Cant afford to do nothing anymore.
Minimum wage has been raised to help with the increasing Gas Prices.....great there goes more Jobs. Employers already statet here they can NOT afford to pay those wages.....so they wont be hiring summer help and let Employes go,,,in the near future.

No jobs......no money......high gasprices....whats wrong with this Picture! :frech32:

They say the whole point of raising the prices is to discourage people from useless running of the roads and hopping on the playtoys because we are running out of fossil fuel.
B.S. I SAY! Its all greed and the little business man is going to pay dearly by shutting the doors. Just think for a momet, you get rid of the little guy then big daddy can replace him such as Walmart, K-Mart, Miejers, and all the huge gas stations across the U.S. have done for many years now.
Can you Imajine snowmobiling in the U.P. and all the mom and pop party store/gas stations are gone? Imajine having to get gas only in the big towns where they can make money at a profit year around?
I dont know about you guys, but where I ride in the U.P. my riding would be very limited if not for the little gas stations.
BigEvil1000
I'm glad I have my bike for summertime. I can go 240 miles on 5 gallons of gas!

That's nice! :div20:

On the brighter side, I wont feel so bad buying race fuel for the car this summer. No road taxes. ill feel like im getting a deal. Tommorow I put insurance and plates on my 84 vw deisel. 50mpg. the truck is now only a tow vehicle!
ZRT600800
Is there not an oil man in office right now? We have ethenal here and it is still 2.60 a gal. and it is made with corn WTF. There are too many people getting very very wealthy at the expense of the American people. We all need to not buy any fuel from Exxon mobile for as long as we can do so until they drop the price down to where it should be at 1.30 a gal. This is all just a bunch of bull shit period. They can say what they want as to why it is high, it is pure lies. Gas jumped up during the Katrina thing because the oil rigs were down they say, Corn prices never went up because the Mississippi river was so blocked up and no ships could make it down through, what is up with that? It is a one way street and it all goes towards the oil co. I could go on and on. :banghead:

Well, I am registered for two car shows in the U.P. this summer. The whole family was all gung ho to go. And lodging is FREE. A friend's cabin for one, and a campground for the other (not free but VERY cheap). Already requested vacation days for the Friday before to make it a 3 day weekend. See the sites (we already saw 10x over) and hang out.

My grandparent's live 2 miles from the campground too.

But if diesel hits $3.00 a gallon I WILL NOT be going to those car shows. And I WILL BE selling the car trailer to a rich bastard on ebay that money means nothing to.

I am a blue collar father of 3, this crap is really starting to put a strain on our family activities. We do thngs together, not seperate...and this is sucking. I don't want to give in to the kids playing Nintendo and me drinking beer in the yard. We have always enjoyed doing things together. Even the 14 & 16 year old still WANT to do things with us, not go off on their own.

I mentioned selling the car and the 5 year old freaked out Wow1.gif She loves the Mustang and is very proud of it. But what good is it if I can't put gas in it dunno.gif I know I am not alone in this either :beerchug:

Something is sucking somewhere in the system, and only the little people are going to suffer :banghead:
SnowdemonsRX1
I am with ya 100% beagle.

We planned on going to the Up a lot but now its looks like ONLY during the BIG weekends. And now that the Gas prices are going up so high we might not even make that. With 3 kids its just to hard nowdays.

We sold out Sleds last year because it was getting too much $$ and went with dirtbikes,& quad longer season and cheaper on gas. But now it looks like its gonna get right up there too. Thank God we are close to Leota and couple of other local trails. But its depressing that you work hard to make a living then its being sucked away by Gas or heating cost.

The family thing is a awsome thing, thats what the Kids going to remember when they get older, and yes our 14 year (almost 15) still loves to go with us too. But we always have a good time camping or just hitting the trails.
I wish they could see what they do to the Working people down here, those rich People , Lawmakers have NO idea how much they going to hurt the vacations ......People wont be able to afford taking them anymore. I know we cant.....not like we use too.
ZRT600800
Not to mention what it is doing to the truck market or anything that takes some fuel to run. The gas prices wouldn't be such a killer if other stuff would help compensate for it like lower taxes-property,income, etc. but they all just keep going up as fast as the fuel is. Where does it end?

Exactly, it's a vicious cycle it seems. And only the rich get richer. The rest just getting by.

I am damn proud of the fact I average a 4% or better raise annually. Even 8% a few years ago. THAT IS SUBSTANTIAL Wow1.gif And it is based on my work ethic and effort, not a contract.

But it would be great if it would allow me to keep up, but due to the domestic auto sales decline the last 5 years my wife is going backward in salary faster than I am going forward. So instead of me gaining, I am actually losing even with raises ahead of Cost of Living :banghead:

She is going to seriously look at getting out now. 30% pay DECREASE in 5 years is enough I think. I feel terrible for her, because she is great at what she does. But the place you sell for has to have a product people want. And 15mpg trucks IS NOT THE ANSWER :frech32:

As an addtional burden...MICHIGAN SUCKS! Our taxes, insurance, license plates and cost of living are some of the highest in the nation. And I don't want to hear that BS about how our pay is higher. It might be for some jobs, but for minimum wage it's the same everywhere. There are actually states where those earners can survive. Maybe not in a brick home with a 2 year old car, but they can ive on their own if they chose. Here in Michigan, if you make minimum wage it's either the "hood" or Mom's house forever dunno.gif

One of the things that pisses me off about the gas prices going up and down. An example is 2.69 ,2.82, 2.89, 2.74 2.77, 2.83 and that was all from yesterday morning till now. When one goes up they all go up when one goes down thay all go down. Collusion?
