Now that winter is pretty much over for our family, thoughts are turning towards camping. We really enjoy it as a family however we're looking for a nice campground to visit. We have all of the NH campground books but I"m looking for advice as to where to stay.

We've been to Moose Hillock, Glenn Ellis, Danforth Bay, Cold Springs and Pine Acres but we'd like to go some place different. A lot of campgrounds are now accepting reservations for the summer.

We have a 21 foot Jayco and are going to need water and electric hookups. Looking for a family campground, surrounded with lots of activities, fishing if possible and a campground that would accept a quite dog.

Any suggestions? Here's pic of our camper just uncovered today. Just needs to be prepped for the summer.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Water, Electric, Satellite TV, etc., why not include sewer? dunno.gif Why go camping at all? Just stay HOME! dunno.gif

Take them to Deer Mountain Campground, in Pittsburg, and introduce them to what "REAL CAMPING" is like! Wow1.gif I bet if you got them out in the woods they, and you, would have a great time! Make your own fun.

Mark you obviously have no children under 10. I have two daughters 7 and 4 who need constant activities. If if were just my wife and I, I'd love to come up there and camp and have fun swatting at the Eagle sized mosquitoes.

Iggy,
If you want to venture over to Maine, the best place for you and the family to enjoy camping and have lots for the girls to do, the place to go is Acres Of Wildlife. I have been goign there since 1992, place is awesome, activities for kids from morning to night, small private lake to fish, no license needed. You'll be happy going there, everyone is.
chainfeed
I see you've been to moose hillock campground. My family has some land right next to the campground. We used to have our camper at the campground before my parents got our 5 acres. Nice place, altho its gotten allot bigger than it used to be.

Thanks for the recommendation. When we camp in Maine, we stick to the Southern Coast. Can't beat the beach. We've been to Camp Eaton, Wells Beach. My sister live in Sanford so it's an easy visit for them. I'd like to go to Bayley's though.

Hillock is a nice place. Large lots and plenty to do. The pool is expanded and we have our favorite site there.

my trailer is at camp eaton for 3weeks in august
skidoo_guy
check out the Broken Branch KOA in north woodstock nh. Great campground with lots to do for the kids, pool, playground, fishing, they love dogs, giant field for flying kites, chasing kids around, playing ball, etc, etc.

Also check out MI-TE-JO's campgrpund in Milton NH, On a lake great big sites, great playground, really nice for sure.

Fransted Campground in Franconia Notch. Really nice place with plenty to do too.

If you enjoy Tubeing and Canoeing, try Saco River in N. Conway. Its very clean
and they don t tolerate Drunkin A Holes. :div20:
Double D
You have to try bayley's in maine. A little pricey but well worth it. There so much for the kids you won't see them the whole time your there. :div20:

Iggy, Acres is over near Sebago, 45 min to N Conway, 30 minutes to Old Orchard. All the campgrounds on the coast are nice, but getting way to pricey. Once they all started adding extra $ for your own kids, we pulled up stakes and went inland. I now have a trailer I keep at Acres to use, so its the only place I go. Never did Baileys, but Powder Horn is good, in Wells, SeaVue is real nice, and never went to Camp Eaton, but it looks real good. There is also one in Cape Neddick on the back road to Ogunquit, got a nice sand bar off it. Looks real cool.
I am sure your camping will be great this summer whereever you go. If you decide to try Acres, let me know, if I am there the same time, we can hook up.

Are there any campgrounds North of Twinn that has all the hookups for year round camping.
MikeRizz
For your girls you may want to try Yogi Bear. My daughter loved it ( she was 4 at the time ). They have a bunch of daily activities they do with the kids.

Danforth Bay was another campground our family really enjoyed.

I'll second the motion on Danforth Bay, its an amazing campground and the people who run it are willing to make sure you have a good time! :div20:

Ya we hope to get to Danforth this summer again. We had reservations last summer out on the point down by the bay but we sold our pop up for the existing camper and was told our new camper couldn't fit in those sites. Man was I bummed. We made reservations a year in advance for that site, and we had planned on keeping the pop up for a while until my sister bought it. Oh well..we'll be back...

Hey Iggy - How do you like that Kiwi. I have one too, mine is an '03 23B. We're starting our second season with it. Looking forward to getting out there.

Love it. It's an 02 and we're starting our second season with it as well. We bought it from a friend at work. Just what we were looking for. We were fortunate enough to have the hitch leveling system included in the price. That's a sweet set up for my rig. Two bunk beds inside for the girls, and of course the 2 end unit's pop out. Can sleep 8.

I had my reservations about buying it with the AC, shower, toilet and full kitchen, but now we don't have to worry about finding a site near the bathrooms or showers. If it pleases the wife, then it pleases me.

Hoping to get out atleast 4 times this summer. No more than 3 consecutive nights or the kids start going crazy wanting to go home. I hope the weather cooperates this summer as it did last summer. :div20:

For anyone who has a Popup , Slidein Pickup or Tents . I would also recommend
Hermit Island on the Maine Coast near Brunswick. Motorhomes or Large trailers like Iggys are not allowed due to narrow roads. Very Nice beaches . :div20: :div20:

Hey Dave try Pickle Park down in Provincetown
Do the Doo
Iggy,
places I liked and have gone back numerous times is Winslow Park in South Freeport, ME. Sites right on the ocean, 2 miles to the South Freeport Harbor for excellent Lobster. Either have it cooked there and eat it, our buy it live and bring it back. Then there is Freeport itself. That is a 10 min drive with a lot for the kids to see. We go to Bath for the beaches for the kids. Very flat with tidal pools. Portland, go to Old Port, 20 mionute drive. Highly recomend this place. In land, Sabego Lake has several areas for camping and swimming, Long Lake as well, then go up North, Rangeley Lake. Gorgeous place to camp and sled.
Other areas we go to is anything that is a Vermont State park will have excellent facilities, Lake Dunmore, Lake St. Catherine, Lake Champlain. I have never been to a bad place in a VT state park. In MA, have not found a place that I liked yet....

If you want just a water and electric site, try something on Rainbow lane, you won't get anything on the lake they fill up fast. If you want the sewer too, not many left, try deer way or Otter road, there are two or three in between seasonal sites that are nice and big. I called today to book weekends for June and the fall, got some in the woods and on the road that leads to the seasonal sites, called blueberry hill. Let me know what you get if you book anything.

wasn't to crazy about crazy horse, The owners are great people and helped me out with a flat tire problem. The campground is very hilly and some of the sites were small and not setup with the electirc and water on the right side. There is a KOA in the littleton area that is very nice. Not to big but hte sites were great the people who own it are great too. Lots of stuff for the kids and parents too.

My friend had his 34" motor home on that site last summer. Goos site.
I have not booked Labor Day yet, I am doing the fall special for the last 4 weekends of the season. The Halloween weekends are a blast! If I go Labor Day, I'll let you know.

I plan on taking my friend Kate there this June. She's never been camping and wants to go. She also wants to go hiking and fishing and I know that's pleniful up there. I figure walk some of the trails I ride on. Plus I want to hike Magalloway and see the "trail" I rode my sled up.

I hiked up Magalloway 3 years ago with Hondafixer and his kids. It was a blast. It's interesting to see the stud marks on all of the rocks as you climb. Makes you wonder how people get up there in the winter time. It's pretty steep.

We stayed there last year. It was later in the year so we didn't go swimming or anything because it was too cold. They have the water slide there for a fee. We stayed at site # R 10 which was nice, by the river and big enough but way out there. Too far to walk in my opinion with 3 kids. Bring your bikes if you stay out that far. You should be good there.
