I just thought this was an interesting topic........

Since we know NOTHING about engines or anything mechanical, we take in all vehicles to the dealer for service. Cars, sleds, motorcycles, etc. I don't like taking any chances that I may get stuck somewhere. That happened too many times when I was younger and I will never let it happen again. :div20:

I do all my servicing myself.Dealers get waaaay to much per hour to work on these toyz. Wow1.gif

I think of it like a challenge to repair and maintain my sled. anyhow my sled is so old that if i use a dealer everytime something need fixing i would be broke by now.A service manual helps ofcourse.... m2c.gif
FIRECAT SPANKER
i do the work that i can do and the rest goes to the shop yay2.gif

I am the same way....I do everything except (internal) motor work because I don't have a good shop or tools (percision) to use. Other than that I have a old garge I can use or outside. You losing big time Vel.

Comon now... there has to be more non-mechanical gimps like myself out here. :div20: buttrock.gif It's not worth shelling out 150 bucks in gas for the truck, to get there, and something breaks, and blow the whole weekend for myself, but mainly the people I go riding with, because it was something I did wrong.
cpalm1
so far i have done all of the work on my sleds myself. only time i have taken it to the dealer is for warranty work. Aside from internal engine work, i do everything myself.

I guess it depends on what needs to be done, and how fast.

If I feel that I can have it done in a day or two, and I think I know what I'm doing I will do it myself.

If I'm too busy in the GM Dealership Bodyshop I work at I will take it to the dealer.

I do everything besides internal motor work like cranks. I can replace top ends though. My 02 ZR 440 Sno Pro has yet to be in the shop. Kinda hard putting it together from this point though.

That is nice job rebuilding that ride. Looks great. I have a dumb question though......Isn't there a teather switch on that sled?? Or did it have that much speed built up it went that far before it stopped??

I would fix little things in the past on my old sleds, but after breaking down on drummond Island, and having my truck in St. Ignace, I just get a new sled every year or two.
dawginit81
i do all my own work.....even some warranty work i'll do if i have the time. most of the time i do and its better than the sled sitting at the dealer for 4 days. i9 can fix it in an evening and be out riding the next day. :fluffy:

myself.

Yep
If you want it done right you have to do it yourself
I cant count the times i have gotten something back and had loose bolts and nuts.
they are suposed to be pros but sometimes i wonder.

I do it all myself. When I first bought my sled, I knew nothing about them, and because of that I decided to buy a new one with a warranty. After getting a pathetic 400 miles on the sled during the warranty period, I quickly realized how much of a waste that was.

Once I took the plunge and turned a wrench, I found that it's an absolute piece of cake. After ressurecting my Camaro and my Trans Am from the dead, working on a snowmobile is no challenge whatsoever. General Motors could learn a thing or two from Arctic Cat. I can only imagine how nice it would be to only need one ratchet and one wrench to take the entire rear suspension out of my car. nopityA.gif

I pretty much have no choice, where I live and ride, there are no dealerships. I've been around sleds since I was a whipper-snapper, and my uncle once sold Cats and DOOs, so my family has been wrenching since I was riding in Northern Maine. Now that I'm on the other end of the world, I am glad for my earlier experiences.

the worst part of BUSH life is waiting for parts, and the cost of everything!

other wise, the wide open spaces, endless snow and low population is a way of life I'll never grow tired of.

not to mention the Iron Dog, and Arctic Man.... just a couple of insane races that are a hoot!
