Full Version: Edge engines to Wedge bodies

I was just wondering if you can take a motor from the Edge chassis and bolt it into the Wedge body (98) with out much problems? If so, will the flatslide carbs fit right into the stock airbox? What about the pipe/can configuration? Will things have to be changed to allow it to fit under the hood? Thanks.

What are you trying to do

The motors will bolt in providing they are on the right motor plate.

You will need the right pipe/Y/Can for the chassie.
The pipes will all work performace wise but the fit will be a problem.
The can exits the belly pan differently and the shock towers and engine height/angle is different.
Might need a good pipe welder to fab up something here.

The plumbing of the coolant hoses and mounting of the CDI/coil and coolant bottle is different and may take some rerouting and mixing of parts to get it right.

The airbox I'm not sure, prolly need to fab some carb to airbox boots?

Sure can be done....is a bit of F*&$ around though.
Much more feasible if you have a donor sled for all the various parts you will need.
If you're workin off a wreck or something like that should be not too bad.
If all you have is the motor you will be doin al lot of F&&%# around and parts searching I think.

98PSI700RMK: Looking foward to seeing the new sled. I was thinking about maybe getting a bigger engine to put in. A newer 800 from a Edge body. Not really to serious right yet about doing it, but just throwing around ideas.

Thanks for the comments everyone eles.

In the edge , the motor sits at an forward angle compared to the wedge/Gen11. Carb boots etc for a 00/01 800RMK should fit the Mikunis and have the correct angle. As for Y-pipes, I've heard of ppl using a SLP y-pipe of some kind. Also , the 02 700SKS used a VES engine in the GenII chassis.

Here are two transplant sleds I have.

The white one was a simple swap, but I was taking out a turbo motor that had a lot of different stuff in it. It is a 98 wedge with a 2000 XC 700 motor in it with all of the 2000 spec stuff, like revised cooling air box and such along with all gen II controls on the bars. Pipe is a slightly modded edge 700 pipe that I got at the snow show for so cheap that I could not pass it up!

My red sled is a 2000 XC/SP with a 03 edge perk E/V motor in it along with a 03 pro-x rear skid. The pipe on this one is a combination of various parts that SLP put together for me to fit the chassis as well as make some serious power. It has an 800 RMK y pipe, the insulated 700/ 800 pipe with a gen II 700 can. Sounds sweet and runs awesome.

The only real hard part is figuring out the right carb boot/ air box combo and getting the right motor mounting plate to fit your chassis.

Both the newer rack slide carbs and the older Keihin's will fit in either style carb boot. You just need to match the carb boot angle to the chassis & air box. The rest is bolt on and go stuff.

Nice work!!

carb boots because of angle and y pipe you will also have to do a little fudgen with the can exit but you will have a much faster sled we have done a few you loose the ride but gain speed i,m not sure why but it's very true besides give ya some thing to do for the summer and you can create a real sleeper ck motor mounts as the only problem i have found is with all the new found tourqe the old ones may break i wish they would bring back the wedge :div20:

Look at the 2001 xcsp e/v 600 factory small block in a genII chassie make sure not to look at the xcsp e/v edge. you will need to change the steering post, the crc rack and the pitman arms that hold it in place...
