Friend of a friend had his new truck, trailer, and 2 new apex sleds stolen from Hotel. Nothing recovered. When coming back over the border he was told he was the 6th person that day with the same story. What gives? :banghead:He was up in the gaspesie area.

I'd like to hear more info on this. We only went to Quebec this year since there was really no good snow anywhere in the eastern US. I went twice this year and took precautions but there were no incidents. Hell we were just in St. Michel and we were the only 2 sleds locked up. I am sure that early season biz was off in QC due to all the negative pub they deservedly got from previous years. Makes sense for them to make as many hits as they could in the last weeks of the season. That really sucks! I sure hope Maine has a better snow year next season.

my trailer was broken into this winter up in st georges but it's not stopping me from going back I'll just pick my parking spot a bit better next time. already in the planning stages for 3 trips there next year. Way I figure it is if they get the truck as long as the sleds aren't on the trailer it's just an excuse to get a new one. Look at rob he got his rig taken a couple of years ago and he rides thousands of miles up there.

Spoke with a friend over the weekend. He said I was lucky I didn't go with them this year. Lost a New quad cab dually truck and beautiful 4 place inline trailer, with 3 sleds inside from the Quebec INN parking lot(yes in front of the cameras), he had taken precautions such as pulling the relays, and using a club on the wheel, and had onstar, but it was gone in the am. I bit discouraged, but still needing to ride, went back and lost another truck and trailer this time the sleds weren't in it. Different location in quebec. :banghead:

rode in Quebec at least 8 different times this year and no issues, truck parked overnight at the hotel arnold 3 times no issue, truckparked at Quebec INN for 3 days no issues, Truck parked at Beauceville clubhouse overnight on 2 or 3 occasions with no issues.

Not saying there isn't a problem just that if you take precaustions you are ususally all right

I left my truck at the arnold for 5 nights this winter. my trailer was broken into the first night with sleds on it but thankfully no tethers or gear so no real issue and a full rig was lost one morning and the owner says they never have issues. It's not stopping me from going back but as said take precautions. I will never leave my sleds on the trailer again(only reason they were there that night is I was upstairs in the inn) I think they are safer locked together in front of the room or in the corral, lock reciever, lock the trailer to the ball, cover your VIN and park in a lighted higher traffic area of the lot.

that said if you frequent quebec a lot eventually your time will come, it's why I have insurance and personally I'd be less upset with the loss of a truck and trailer than I would a loss of sleds. If I lost the truck I could make a call to my dealer and have a new one within a day or so, my sled would be much harder to replace mid season.

Truck 88K miles
Sled 3200 Miles.
Trailer ??miles and a few dents

No wonder my stuff was never touched this year dunno.gif

I left my truck at Bernards for two nights an had no probelm. He does lock the "corral" at night. If the theives are making keys to the trucks why not just drive it out during the day though?? Also he gives a key to you to keep??? Strange security plan if you ask me.

Also stayed at the Arnold. At least they don't give out keys. It was locked until 7:00 am. Not sure how you would steal a truck out of there at night.

We also left a truck in Beauce with no problems.

at the arnold you can drive it right down the snowmobile trail or around the motel since the gates only at the main entrance. they want them at night because theres a better chance of sleds being in the trailer.

Do they steal the same brand of truck all the time or do they take whatever you have. The reason I ask is because I was told at one time it's mainly GM products that disappear. Just curious thats all dunno.gif

mostly gm's. they have inside guys a the dealership who with a VIN can cut a new key, you can do the same with Dodges so there must be a better market in stolen Chevy's.

My personal thought on this is that the majority of it happened 2 or 3 years ago and now it is a random thing to have happen. 3 years ago was when the majority of the stories stopped and now you only hear of it once and a while. It may happen to me someday but it can happen right here in Maine as well, I heard more stories of sleds being stolen in Biddeford area this year than in Quebec. My buddy had his sled locked down in his pickup last year in Millinocket but someone managed to steal his spare and his belt right off his skidoo at the price of $75 each.

Be smart with your stuff and it will decrease the odds where ever you are.

We spent the night in Quebec city the other night and hoped it would be gone when we woke up but it was still there in the am.

sounds like the attituide I have at the end of the seaon, nothing would have been finer than to have the truck, trailer and sleds clipped that way no trades to deal with and a whole new setup for next year. I really want a 14 foot sno pro more than a new sled but I'd take both.

this is a huge problem in that area and it comes from the EXCHANGE RATE.....steal it in CANADA sell parts at AMERICAN PRICES :div20: only gonna get worse there also :banghead: welcome to my world but its cars....over 20 cars per day all year long are stolen in NORTHWEST INDIANA :banghead: dunno.gif same reason......steal in INDIANA sell parts at CHICAGO PRICES :banghead:

I went to the Gaspe this year for the first time and I accidentally left my enclosed trailer unlocked all week. I had tons of tools in there, parts, etc and nothing was touched !

I was totally impressed with the people up there and how they really try to make us, the tourists, happy.

I use to go to a different, very popular, area of Quebec and theft has become rampant there. In that area, you're also treated by a lot of people as infringing on them and their country but... they have no problem taking your money ! Granted there are are a bunch of great-hearted people/businesses there that do really bend over backwards for the tourist but they are a minority.

Gaspe rocks! The people, the trails, everything!
what?trail?

awesome ... thats because if you leave it UNLOCKED the thieves think it is a setup --- and they wont touch it !!!!
