Hey guys

I got job this summer being a dock boy/fishing guide at Edmund Lake Lodge , its located in north east Manitoba.

I am just wondering if any of u guys fish northern pike or walleye in that area...got any tips or u guys can help me out with anything I would not know about Manitoba.

Sounds like you have a great summer job Andre. Good luck and I hope you have a good time. I'll bet there is no internet, no HCS... Oh well you will have fun anyway. You will have to tell us about it when you return, be sure to take a digital camera.

Bait caster reel and a good rod is a start. I would recommend 30 pound spiderwire stealth as a superbraid line. (titaniuam leaders) Musky innovations makes a lure called a bulldawg u can purchase them at pro am tackle. Suicks work well, Rapala also makes husky jerks that are awesome, jakes, inline spinners and safety pin spinners like the bionic bucktails, Then there are topwater baits which are numerous but my favorite is a topraider.The most important tools u should have are handling and release. U will need a glove and large enough net, long nose pliers, large jaw mouth spreaders and i recomend a good pair of hook cutters (even small bolt cutters will do). Sounds like u have alot to learn b4 hopping in a boat 4 the large pike if u would like 2 gain more knowledge i will post a link to our club. We have a meeting this thursday in the bottom of the marion hotel @7pm. We are vary knowledgable and will have great info 4 u.

when i catch fishing in the duck mountains i am suprised sometimes at what i use to catch it. caught a 44 inch pike (29 pounds) on 4lbs test, tons of master walleye on 4lbs test and trout on the same stuff.

where did u hear about that place. i work at the lodge at wellman lake but don't get to guide because i have other stuff to do. that would be a sweet job to do as where i work i work full time then at night go fishing for 5 hours or until thebugs get really bad.

I saw a show on the Discovery Channel the other night documenting that the mosquitos in that area were raping the crows! But that doesn't mean you should worry.

All kidding aside, the bugs are bad up there, the fishing is amazing and wehn I was there the maids were too. Watkin Insect Repellant, its like a lotion, works great, best I have found and we have fished the north for many years and know what the mosquitos up there can get like. Also, take one of those mosquito net type suits or jackets because when they are working you like a rented mule in the bush the repelant wonts stay on so well and you will be thankfull for the netting.

Good luck, you will have a blast, I would have liked to do that wehn I was younger, the money will be wicked if its anythin like it was in the past. Also, be sure to be very respectfull and as helpfull as you can to the American guests, all guest for that matter, but the Americans are customary to tipping large, and if you are there little buddy they will make sure you are taken care of. Also, even if you don't smoke take a few cartons of cigarrets up there, they are like gold up there when a guy that didn't plan for it does not bring enough, its almost liek having cigarrets in jail, they are like money and cans help you with one of those big tipper Americans if you need. Export A GReen, Black Cat Blue No.7, or DuMArier Kings are the closest to the american stuff, the smokers will love you if you have some when they can't get them.
