GIDDIEUPZ
Any good places in Colebrook to pick Fiddleheads. The season is just around the corner...
oldtimer
If there are....no one will tell you..lol...that shit is TOP SECRET!

I never went wild with picking them, but my friend Rick picks BOXES and boxes of them....in the fall, we pick several hundred pounds of mushrooms too...mostly "hen of the woods"...but some are a type that gets shipped over-night to Japan...big dollars in it...like 25 bucks a pound...
shortfused
i've seen my dad pick some in the milan area i think...no clue where and its a ways from colebrook.. Go up and talk to the locals is probably your best bet.
GIDDIEUPZ
I was just looking for a new place to go. I used to go to Shelburne but since the pipeline came in with all that southern hay the area is infested with ticks! I am not a bug person.

OldViperRider
At least another month to go up here in Pittsburg before we can start picking them. :div20:

If I told you where to pick them; then, I would have to shoot you! :smilielol:

Competition for "picking grounds" sounds as fierce as "picking grounds" for Morel Mushrooms here in Michigan.

What do those things taste like? Never heard of them until I read this thread. Do you cook them? Eat them raw?

I've been to "the hut" this winter to visit him and Helga and seen him packing his "heat" on his side belt. It's nothing but a glorified bb gun for Christ sake lol :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

you boil them in water to cook them, they are so good after you freshly picked them then cook a pot and soak them in butter, makes my mouth water. We also blanch a bunch put them in bags and freeze them to get us through the winter to spring for fresh ones

Ya - what the hell is up with that anyway? I noticed it when we were at the hut. Mark - do you have a lot of bad-ass sledders coming in and holding the place up to steal a hot dog and a whoopie pie or what?

We will see what he calls it after I get him up here on my range to shoot it. :lol2:

It is a S&W 340PD, it is a .357 Mag. and weighs 15 ozs. loaded. :div20: You want to have a good grip on it when you set it off. Wow1.gif It pushes a 135 grain Gold Dot at 1200 fps out of a 1 and 7/8 inch barrel. I checked that on my chrongraph last summer. :div20:

There are many reasons. First because I can. Second, I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. :div20: Third, a lot of times in Pittsburg you are a very long way from help and you must rely on yourself. :div20: Fourth, many times at the end of the day at the "Hut" there are not many people around and we have the whole days cash receipts with us. Fifth, it is fun to shoot. etc., etc.,

You're absolutely right...Deer Mountain is a lonely place after the party's over on Sat. afternoon...you never know what evil lurks in the hearts of men!!!

There is a certain security in having your "friend" at your side...but I wholeheartedly agree with the having it and not needing it part! :div20:

I walked over 2000 miles in the greatnorthwoods, alone, and never had a "piece" with me. :beerchug:

Nothing out in the woods to be afraid of,
so way even bother to "lug" a gun around.

As far as humans are concerned,
haven't met one yet that frightens me so much I might want to put a "hole" in it (and I worked in a prison).
I have seen the aftermath of what a gun can do Wow1.gif
point is...
if it's my stuff you want
then take it, stuff is easy to replace, flesh isn't.

Guns are alot of fun,
especially the powerful ones like that "little" cannon...
but when you carry one,
you open up a can worms that ain't pretty. Flush.gif

Hey mark, have you ever been robbed or assaulted?
OldViperRider
Hi Chris,

Well, I have been robbed twice and I am not going to let if happen again, if I can help it.

You are a young man Chris and full of piss and vinager. I would be physically no match for someone like you. :banghead:

You are right, there is nothing wild in the woods to be afraid of, but the "civilized" two legged animal sometimes can be very scarry. Wow1.gif Especially if you have something he wants and he thinks he can get it easily. :banghead:

Mark :fluffy:

You are right...
Wearing the gun on your hip,
"for all the world to feel" (stole that from a Willie nelson song)
does make for "good" behavior on the part of people who otherwise might try some "monkey-business".

I have not been in the position to ever have needed it, so it is hard for me to relate.
BUT I must confess, when I am up at my dad's place all by myself I do know where the 45 is located...just in case. :div20:
Hope it never comes to needing...
