I am sick of getting lost on unmarked trails and thinking of getting gps.. what do you recommend for me? i want to use it for snowmobiling but i also have an rv and would like to use it for trips.. any suggestions? can you download trail maps? i see a couple threads about this so you must be able to.. can all models do this? kind of on a budget, dont need anything fancy.. I was offered a legend with some mapping software for 150.. good deal? thanks in advance.. Kevin

I have a Garmin Legend C which is around $200 and works great. It has a color screen and you can load it with maps.

Some useful information for you:

i was looking at a legend or a vista.. do you think the extra memory of the vista or the removable memory that the legend and vista cx offers is worth the price? would you like to have the altimiter and compass that the vista offers? do you use yours just for snowmobiling or do you use it for driving in your car too? they good for that? thanks..

I have a magelan gold that has the altimiter and do use it a lot. Actually its on my map paage for quick ref. Also the expandabe memory is absolutely required in my mind and definately worth the extra. Spend a little now so youdont buy another one in a couple years to get those features

If you're using it for snowmobiling, get a Garmin. The vast majority of home made custom maps, including mine, only work with Garmins.

Thats the software, not the Gps. There are freeware programs that will interface with any brand so that files are interchangable

While it's true that you can upload tracks, routes, and waypoints to any brand, my snowmobile map is Garmin only, as are the vast majority of user-made maps I've seen.
