i've got a 92 phazer which was running great the motor had been rebuilt this year and has about 500 miles on it, all was good. till the other day i was about a half mile from the truck and smoke started coming out from under the hood. so i stopped to check things out nothing real obvious so i limped my way back to the truck. the sled just kept smoking the belt.

clues...
-y exhaust had lost a bolt, gas and oil was leaking, took apart the top end replace the gastkets and bolt no more leak everything seemed good?

-new belt, nothing
- the slevle on the primary seems to move in and out just fine?
-secondary clutch what should i look for?
-jackshaft, i this an idication of a bearing being out?

thanks :banghead:

Better check your jackshaft bearing on the secondary and also while your at it the driveshaft bearing below the secondary... brass bushings in the primary wear and cause binding but not usually slippage....if alignment is off then maybe...but the belt would show that. i've seen the secondary jackshaft bearing holder turn red it got that hot so I would start there. :beerchug: Tim's double double

could it be that the secondary isnt shifting out so its just smoking the belt or does it acelerate fine and stuff.

it the belt going all the way up your primary and all the way down the secondary.

thanks for the thoughts

it looks like the (clamp / key / ring clasp)? on the inside of the secondary clutch wore out allowing the clutch to expand against the jackshaft bearing causing binding? when i took off the secondary clutch the clutch came apart in my hands, not so good! it doesn't seem like the bearing suffered much, i'm hoping i don't need to replace it although it may be the right thing to do?

a new sleave for the secondary cost $250- i'm trying to locate a good used one for a 92 phazer ll if you know of any? apparently only 92- 93 will fit?

thanks
