A couple weeks ago i started snowboarding and what a blast. I have so much fun and for a college kid thats out of money its a great option to get out on the snow without having to spend $75 dollars for race gas.

Anyway as many of you know i am on the University of Alaska Fairbanks basketball team. So a few of us decided to take the whole team up there and teach them how to board. All i can say is that was the funniest day of my life. Seeing black people trying to learn how to snowboard is pure comedy. They did fairly well but some ended up just quiting. My abs are sore as hell just from laughing so hard at these guys.

Of course they didnt have any gear so i had to outfit most of the team in my KLIM gear. Im the guy with the black and grey KLIM pants and pullover in the middle of the first two pics.

All in all we went friday-sunday and the guys were getting the hang of it. We were getting the guys going off jumps and flying like 40-50 feet on the first day(see pics) Had a blast and look forward to going again.

I would agree that snowbording offers the most bang for you buck, especially at Hatcher Pass. All you need there is gas money to take you up the hill. I used to go there alot until a couple years ago ( in high school, I swear I spent more time there than in class)now I can hardly go one run up there without my feet feeling like they are on fire, and my hips hurting. I wish I could do it more, but snowmachining lets me have fun without feeling like and old man for a week (unless I eat it pretty good). At one point in time I had up to 7 snowboards and have been getting rid of them and trying to get down to one, I still have one too many if any of your friends are hooked and want to buy one? :beerchug:

Yeah snowboarding can be alot of fun. I started a few years ago and never really got that good but its still great. The best thing is get your sled, ride it to the top of the hill and push it off, then you can snowboard to the bottom and you have your own chairlift back up. Or you can have a friend drive you up if you are leery about letting your machine freewheel. A buddy of mine and I did that last winter west of the Roadhouse. We found a nice clear hill and we did that all day without getting tired of hiking back up the hill. It was bomb. I really dont like going to ski places like the ones around here in the 'banks. They get too hard since we dont get the snow often. I much prefer a nice powder slope where i can board wherever I want and it doesnt hurt when i fall down.

Looked like fun. Tried it a couple times, couldn't stay vertical. Do better on skies!
