I have a 1995 VIP Victory 2102 w/ a 350 4 barrel 260 HP, 21 pitch Ballistic stainless prop, and I run about 56MPH @4500RPM w/ 2-3 people and 1/2 tank of gas. I want 60+ MPH! The motor in mine is a 2001. I found a 2002 350 MPI(multi port inj.) Mag, that a guy will trade with me. I know him well. He has worked for a boat manufacturer in my home town ever since high school. ('Profile' offshore power boats). He got this motor straight from Mercruiser as a testing motor. He said that it has 60 hrs on it when he hooked it up to his computer. He would swap motors with me for $2000. (He has his own boat repair shop now) He has the motor on a stand so I could here it run. Is this a reasonable deal? Could I gain 5-7 MPH with an extra 40 HP?, or only 2-3? I'm trying to justify this purchase, and sometimes I am very good at justification, if you know what I mean. Bottom line, I have two friends with boats that are very close to beating me, and another just bought a 95 18ft. Crownline with a 305. He will probably beat me unless I do this swap. Can't have that.... Thanks for any and all info. Justin

I don't think you'll gain the speed from the motor swap. Is the redline on the RPM's the same for each motor? If so the prop will only spin at the same speed. Try a diffrent pitch prop to gain the speed but lose torque or pull out of the water. The new motor may help overcome the power loss of using a diff prop.

I had the 350 mag and experimented with different props. Going up to a 23 won't do you any good with or without the mag. My speed stayed the same, but I lost my holeshot with the 23. The 21 pitch is probably best. If you want to go to the 23, put in a mild cam before you put the new engine in. It is tricky and I know exactly what you are going through. That is why I am going to a big block this year.

Justin you have to have some horse power to do 60+ with that boat. 350 to 400hp. If you have a stock 19x 21 prop take it to the prop shop cut 1/8 to 3/16 off the diameter and put a cup on blade. This will over speed the motor to about 4700rpm and pick up 1 to 2 mph on your speedo with still good hole shot

Here's a link to a photo of my boat with my lab finished cupped Mirage Plus 21p..... It's for sale........
With the mods that were done to my boat exhaust and air breather it now hits the rev limiter SO looks like I'm in need of a 23p Mirage Plus.... :banghead:

Hitting about 70mph and with a lab finished 23p we SHOULD be in the 72-74mph range.... I hope!!! :beerchug:

No it's a 212 Islander.....
We boat on small lakes and rivers up here.... sometimes we hit the ocean with it but not often...

You will not gain that speed by stepping up to that motor. Have you checked what it would cost to upgrade the electronics from a carb to an efi. My suggestion would be to upgrade your cam, valve train, new heads and headers. This would give you the power to beat your buddy. Plus SBC's are cheap to hop up. Go to www.offshoreonly.com, the guys on this web site should they you everything you need to know.

It sure did... I WISH it was the 454 MAG OR the 502MAG, and get this...... last year "03" BAJA offered the VERY same 212 Islander with the 496HO..... :div20:
WOW I'd like to have that power in my boat....
This year "04" BAJA just offers the 202 Islander, 242 Islander and the 292 Islander... no more 212 or 232...
