:div20: Its applies to everything (OHV's). Don't worry about it, put your sled away for the summer and wait and see where the government falls on all these issues that are going to pop up.

A link to the new OHV act that affects ATV's, snowmboiles and off road bikes. see below.
Note do to the strong lobby by SANS snowmobiling did not get hit as hard as ATV's. For example anyone under 14 cannot ride ATV's on the trails or priviet property but snowmobilemobilers can.

Seriously do you think that these bull shit laws are going to stop underaged people from driving OHV's? It is the same as the law to keep them of roads, that never worked. It's not like they can catch them anyway. When I was that age very few years ago I made sure that I could handle it. A lot of the accidents are because parents just don't take care of thier kids when it comes to these things. All the law should be is that someone should have the proper sized OHV, nothing too big.

I would like to add my my two cents worth it was not only SANS that did a lot of work for the snowmobilers . But a few of ower members of Driftclimbers and land owners like Barrett Lumber gave a very good presentation on behalf of snowmobilers to help save ower sport. I would like to thank them again.

There was a lot more too it than that, and at the end of the day the only reason snowmobiles didn't get hit hard was politics, a few of the panel people (ie. Kevin Deveaux) had it out for ATV's because they hated them, and they didn't mind snowmobiles because they didn't hear people bitching about them at the time basically. The untimely death of those young people didn't help the ATV case.

When I said SANS I was refering to the membership and I believe that includes the members of the Driftclimbers?
Just a note but they have hired 12 new enforcement officers who are dedicated to enforcing this legislation. That's 12 for the whole province, spread thinner than tinfoil.

We need to give thanks to those who are fighting for us. Those 'enforcement' officers will only catch those who stop. Been there, done that, and got away.

I doubt the people who are doing the fighting so you can ride, want to hear that you are going to run from the officers. Running will only makes it worse for everyone trying to be legal :banghead: Sure there are only 12 officers and ns is a large province, I don't know whats happening on the mainland but here in cape breton they are busy, starting to hand out fines some deserved and some stupid ones. :frech32:

Hopefully the new regulations will be annouced on Monday. This will cover training, age, registration and a few other issues. Let it be noted that all the work to draw up these new regulations was done behind closed doors with absolutely no input from SANS or ATVANS.

Not completely true, don't forget that the ATVANS safety coordinator has been working for DNR now for a few months to get the safety courses figured out and to consult.

Both ATVANS & SANS had representation on theOHV Task Force and the report developed by the Task Force and handed to the Gov. had far more restrictions than was implemented by the Gov.
SANS had an oppertunity to made representation to the Gov. and I would think ATVANS had the same opportunity. The original Task Force report had the same restrictions for ATV & snowmobiles and that is no longer the case.

Fundy, I think you missed what Steve and I are talking about. We are talking what has happened since November basically, not the law, but rather the implementation of the law.
And yes both groups had a lot of input prior to the report, but at the end of the day the group that made the report was possibly weighted (1 atvans and 1 sans amongst 8 others I think) against OHV use, one might not have thought that prior to the start of the process. Anyway, doesn't matter now, it is what it is.

I aplogize if I wasn't clear, what I was refering to was since November the DNR had been drafting the new regulations that were announced today. I think both OHV groups could have made some positive contributions. Perhaps we wouldn't have things like you have to pay $75 to get a certificate to operate an ATV and another $75 to get a certificate to operate a snowmobile they are not intechangable. Both courses are the same except for the practical part. Perhaps with their input the mandatory liability insurance and trail passes would have been there to help the groups. I just feel there were a lot of decisions made by people that didn't have a true pulse on the sport.

Guys thanks for the clarification and I do agree we had no input in the last few monts, in fact the details are still not clear. Well at least some of us old farts can wait until 2012 to get our training.

I'm not waiting, I have a feeling courses will fill up quick and there just aren't enough trainers to go around. Plus I have a funny feeling that the costs will go up as the years go by too. I know that motorcycle course cost sure has sky rocketed.

There may be only 12 officers for NS but pretty much the only place to go snowmobiling in Cape Breton is the Highlands and you know there will be one there enforcing the new laws next winter.
