So, to see what the DNR officers have to deal with I have also been reading the CO reports from the field.

Here is a prime example of a dumb ass making us all look bad. This is only one OUT OF ABOUT 200 I read the last month. :banghead:

COs Chris Holmes, Ryan Aho, and Sgt. Tim Robson worked a snowmobile operate under the influence of liquor (OUIL) patrol in Iron Mountain one evening. No drunken snowmobilers were encountered, but two snowmobile operators who were ticketed by CO Dave Painter and Sgt. Robson the previous weekend were ticketed again. In that instance, CO Painter had stopped and ticketed a snowmobiler for operating on a highway against the flow of traffic and given warnings for operating on a restricted license, improper registration placement, failing to provide registration certificate, failing to transfer registration, and using a colored headlight lens cover. During the OUIL patrol, two snowmobile operators failed to stop before crossing a highway and one of them was this previous operator. He had not corrected any of the problems and had also put the colored lens cover back on. More enforcement action was taken this time.

I have been printing out and reading those CO reports for some time now,
they make for some very entertaining reading.
amazing what some people do, even during the summer.

So, take a look at what this guy actually did. He rode on the wrong side of the road. How many times do you see one side of the road scraped clean by the plow and the other actually with snow? Now, he's got a restricted license which he's probably not supposed to drive a motor vehicle except to work and back. The part of failing to transfer registration tells me that he recently bought the sled and the guy who owned it before him put it in the wrong place. On top of that, he didnt' get the registration certificate when he bought it, or simply didn't have it with him. Colored lens' are pretty darn common. Why buy them if you aren't going to use it. I would bet the guy assed up to the officers, which is probably why he got all those tickets. However, that is pretty petty stuff.

There is no defending a guy breaking laws that received WARNINGS the 1st time dunno.gif

Colored lenses, common or not, have been illegal in Michigan for 2 years...he was warned once. What's so hard to understand...take it off.

Failing to transfer the registration is HIS FAULT no one elses. And if he would have transferred LIKE HE IS SUPPOSED TO, then he could have put them where they belong couldn't he?

When do we not have to be held responsible for our own actions anymore? It's always someone else's fault it seems these days. :banghead:

I sold a sled one time and the GUY NEVER TRANSFERRED IT, I supplied him with TWO COPIES. He rode it for two years that way :frech32: I found out when I seen it out on the trail.

If he didn't get the registration, he should not have taken possesion of the sled, who's to say it wasn't stolen then?

I bet if he had been on a stolen sled and it was recovered by an officer stopping him for petty stuff, it would have been different right?

And I guess riding around No Trespassing signs or Stay on Trail signs is okay too, Tresspassing is just a petty law anyhow, it only gets trails closed and re-routed :drunk:

Kinda hard to argue with this? Law's the law, petty or not! Beagle's right! Why is it ok to just say Fuck it, it's no big law I'm breaking and to hell what others think. At some point, people need to look in the mirror and tell themselves that they are responsible for themselves and their actions!

you can say whatever you want about this ,but the bottom line is still that sledders are thier own worst enemy.

Odds are if he wasn't smart enough to heed prior warnings he's an ass and a detrimant to the rest of us. My guess is that with your runins with the law you feel you are the victim as you are defending an idiot. I'm sure he feels the same way and we can probably do without both of you as you feel laws and common etiquite are for other people. I don't mean to be offensive but come on, get a clue.

Damn, the DUMB ASSES start young...is there any hope for the future of the sport :banghead:

COs Steve Converse and William Cherry patrolled the area of a permitted snowmobile drag race event on Lake Mitchell in Cadillac. The officers observed two snowmobiles with registration violations in the area of the race that were not participating in the event. When the officers attempted to stop the operators of the snowmobiles, they fled the area and attempted to run the officers over. CO Converse commandeered a snowmobile from a spectator in the crowd who happened to be a corrections officer from the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department and who also was a witness to the incident. CO Converse followed the two subjects across Lake Mitchell. The subjects attempted to leave the lake but because of lack of snow in the area were confined to the lake. One of the two subjects crashed his snowmobile into a tree at a national forest campground (no injuries occurred) and the second subject had to be physically removed from his sled in order to get him to stop. The two subjects turned out to be 15- and 17-years old. CO Converse recognized the 17-year old's snowmobile from a contact several weeks ago for an improper display of registration. The subject's parents were contacted and came to the scene. The snowmobiles were impounded and the 17-year old was lodged in the Wexford County jail. The 17-year old was arraigned on 3rd degree felony flee and elude and other charges. The 15-year old was released to parent and charges are pending through the Wexford County Probate Court

I am willing to bet the apple isn't all that far from the tree on this one stirthepot.gif
