i have an 02 edge. im just wondering what the best shocks are that i can fit on the front.

What you have is pretty good.
Whats yor sled doing that you don't like?
A lot of people go and spend $700 on a set of fancy shocks when all you need to do is change the oil in what you have.
DOTOBIRD
im pretty sure the 02s have ryde fx in the front..what do you not like cause you can always change the valving to make them do what you want.

Ive got Foxes on mine, but Ive ridden newer EDGEs that have the Ryde FX or Arvins and I think they work just as well.
I too would like to know what the shocks are or arent doing that you dont like. dunno.gif

the rydes work nice. possible maintenacne issue if you are having trouble. I assume that you have the rebuildable. If not get the rebuildable rydes. 250 from pure polaris.

Are the pro x rydes rebuildable?

Yep
Too Slow
All I can tell you guys...the shocks on my 05 50th 600 are by far the best pieces i've owned in a sled...pretty sure both ifs ones are ryde solo units...front track shock is a ryde...while the rear track shock is a fox clicker....total calibration in this package is awesome...polaris got it right in this sled...at least for me. I had an 02 edge that had a fox clicker and standard ryde shocks up front...worked nice also....no failures like the fox shocks on my 00 and 01 edge Flush.gif ....in fact every edge i've owned till now with having the exception of those fox position sensitive track shocks needing rebuilding very often Flush.gif . Can't remember a single ryde shock going bad in any sled owned. :div20:

It seems like Fox isnt the premium shock maker they once were. dunno.gif
I can remember when Fox was the end-all, be-all of premium performance shocks, but now it seems like they are just average. dunno.gif

Once the fox shock is rebuilt with good quality oil and tech syn seals there great, i think the high end fox shocks like zero x's are one of the best out there.
I set up a 03 xc 800 last year with fox shocks, with different valving in the rear and heavier springs in the front and the ride was premium, was awesome in the rough stuff and smooth in the small stutter bumps, i think the pps 3 shock is great once its valved, and with a clicker reservoir for bigger seals and extra oil, if i had one on my sled i would do that in a heart beat.

All brands of shocks have good and bad things about them.

Fox, had crappy caps that let water and air in,meaning rebuilding quite often. They fixed that with a new cap.Shocks are relatively cheap. Can be rebuilt cheaply and with your eyes closed. There are so many out there.

Ohlins work the same as fox only need to be rebuilt every 3000 miles, but 4 of them cost more then my sled is worth.

Ryde fx, work as good as the other two, almost, I have a few issues
They show premature wear on the aluminum bodies down where the bolt goes through on the poo ft rail shock. Also the cap is a little tough to get out on the ski shock. And I don't think their clickers are worth a shit when compared to fox or ohlins. But there shock dampens as well as the others. Just not as tough.

I bet I could build all 3 of these shocks to preform just the same. Its just oil, going through holes, pushing against steel valves, or shims.

I'm talking for the average agressive trail rider, I'm sure theres bigger issues I don't know about that the pro snowcrossers have found to work and not. They for sure will buy a shock that is 1% better then another because they have to and can afford it. Races are one by inches.

Walker evans , never used them

Fox floats, kinda like the idea, got to see how they pan out after some time in the field.

If I needed a shock, or was building a custom shock, it would be a FOX.
Parts readilly available, cheap, and dampen as good as a shock 4 times the price.

Some people on hear claim that they've blown them out. To me, the WEs seem like Polaris is trying to come out with their own Ohlins. dunno.gif

What upgrades could be done to the shocks from a 98 XC700 with Fox shocks?
Are there better parts/oil out there now?
Thanks for the info
jbshocks
the original oil is junk, If yurs have never been rebuilt the oil is likely not even in there any longer. The oem fox seals have been changed since 98 and the new ones work better. Personally I don't like the tech syn seals (though I keep them on had for those that want them) but once the older fox shocks are updated to the new seals and good poil they hold up better. You can also convert to the fist set up which does a better job keeping out water.
