Haven't been on the site for about a month. It's amazing how much mis-information is accepted as gospel. FYI the Jo Mary Riders (located 7 miles west of town) have been grooming for at least the past month. Anyone who has ridden there can attest to the quality of the riding, almost 100% coverage and the trails are FLAT and FAST. Received a foot of snow last Saturday. They groomed that night, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and will go out again tonight, maybe for the last time this season. Depends on what the weather brings. Over 100 miles in their system alone with pretty good riding to Kokadjo (except the last 3 miles) and to Abol. Granted, you can't leave from the hotels but there is riding in Millinocket. Has anyone ridden this system??
HuntFishSled
No I havn't ridden there this year, although I do know what you say is true. I stayed at a nice place called 5LakesLodge up there last week, but didn't get the oppurtunity to ride. Maybe I should consider going there rather than Jackman saturday as I know the conditions are good and I'm sure much less traffic. :beerchug:

Wow it pisses me off to hear that since I talked to some people up there recently and they said it sucked. I usually ride up there as we stay with freinds. I gave up hope. Thanks for the info! grinning-smiley-023.gif

Where can I park the truck for a day ride and get close to the trails that are good ?
And I don't want to drive 5 miles down a logging road in the truck.
Bombiman
Two choices for parking: Drive 4 miles in on the Jo Mary road (the road is in good shape ) or park at the public parking lot at South Twin Lake and ride the lake over to the Turkey Tail trail. See www.jomaryriders.com for their map.

Jo- Mary is only 23 miles from where I live, and it is awsome riding. The views are breathtaking on a clear day. We ride this area about 3 times a week. Our favorite
trail is the Cooper Mountain trail. Fast and pretty! Bombiman, what part of central
Maine are you from? I'm in Milo. :div20:
mainebound
Hey xc800tl, Can you ride on the ITS trails to the north from there?as long as the conditions hold out. dunno.gif
xc800tl
mainebound, you can hit the ITS trails from Jo-Mary. Not sure on the mileage, but
I think it is around 20 miles of fast riding. You will come to the three corners(ITS 86)
Go left to Kokadjo, right to Millinocket area. Great area, and lots of snow. I will be
in the area Saturday. :beerchug:

i had asked on the maine site a couple weeks ago how was the riding in this area and was told id need to go way north..then i got a link from someone to ask rick(president of the jo mary club)about riding in this area,i called him and was told to come up as they were grooming and the riding was good he also helped me with directions to where i could park, eat ect..anyway i went to jo mary campgriund and rode from there for the next two days and had very good riding plus i bumped into rick a couple times there and he gave us great advice on what trails to use..i have to plug him and his club for the great trails and being a class act and made us feel more than welcome so much so that joined his club..so if you hear that the riding stinks because of a lack of snow do your self a favor and check the club site or maine trail conditions as they keep it updated..ps if you see rick on the trails talk to him as he is a good guy and will make you feel welcome..THUMBS UP TO THE JO MARY CLUB AND THE GREAT RIDING THEY HAVE THERE.... :div20: :div20:

just got back from a week of riding -- on thurs. we tried to ride from shin pond towards millinocket--got as far as about where 83 T's off of 85
then the trail completely melted out--86A is not passable either--the plan was to head to kodajo as we heard riding was decent there-- oh well we turned around. madawaska took the cake this week

Myself and a buddy rode on the Jo-Mary trails yesterday and had a great day. Around 220 miles on some great trails. Granted there were some thin spots and gravel on some of the roads where the sun got to them, but the trails in the woods were awesome.

We started out from the boat landing on South Twin Lake near 5 Lakes Lodge and traveled up the lake to Turkey Lake trail onto the Katahdin Loop Trail crossed back over to the Jo-Mary club trail via the Cooper Mtn.Trail. North to 85 then 86 North to Abol Bridge gassed up and took the West Perimeter Road in Baxter Park all the way to Matagamon. That park trail is un-groomed but fun as it wasn't to bad and the soft conditions made it forgiving. Had a great day of spring like conditions!!

Thanks for the tip Bombiman!! :div20:
