My friend when up to the cabin in St Johnsbury over the weekend and told me that the gates are being closed and VAST is declaring that the season is done. Has anyone else heard this???

Having driven through St J yesterday, there is only about 3 inches of snow on the ground. There is plenty of riding in the mountains around Island Pond. The groomer reports state they will continue to groom up there.

Maybe in some areas. I went to woodford on sunday and the riding was pretty good.

From what I understand some land owners will ask the local club to close there gates until there's more snow.

If we get a snow storm they will open the gates back up.

Your "Freind" is wrong VAST is NOT declaring that the season is done.

Tried to ride from Cannan down to Colebrook and back into Vt on Sunday - got to the trail jct at 7/18 outside of Colebrook and gate was closed. sign said lack of snow - standing there in 5" of fresh snow reading the sign! This after having riden across nearly bare wind blown fields, but excellent coverage in the woods. Passed at least four jct markers on my way down 21. Nothing was posted about trail being closed into Colebrook. :banghead: It would be nice if clubs could/would post this information somewhere along the trails. dunno.gif Or post it in the area restaurants/stores - (at least I enjoyed a nice brunch at Bessie's!!) :cn: . Trails back to IP were fantastic - 97 was a dream - flat and fast. :div20:
