GRAND RAPIDS — A 24-year-old is being held on $100,000 cash bail in Itasca County Jail in connection with the snowmobile accident that claimed the life of Hibbing Realtor Jack Frahm on Saturday.
Phillip Benjamin Braun of Danube, Minn., is currently awaiting charges for his role in Frahm’s death. Anticipated charges include criminal vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.
Frahm, a broker and appraiser, was owner of Frahm & Associates JF Realty in Hibbing. The 63-year-old resided in Side Lake.
According to Itasca County Sheriff Pat Medure, two snowmobiles collided while traveling on the Circle T Snowmobile Trail approximately one mile west of Togo off Highway 1. Frahm was driving one of the snowmobiles; Braun was the driver of the other snowmobile.
Frahm was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Medure. He said that speed and alcohol were factors in the incident.
“The preliminary test (blood alcohol content) taken at the scene put him (Braun) at over the legal limit,” said Medure.
Formal tests for BAC will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The legal limit is. 08. Charges could include second degree DWI, which is a felony.

Braun was treated for shoulder and facial injuries and released from the Bigfork Valley Hospital in Bigfork. He was then taken into custody.
As of press time, formal charges by the Itasca County Attorney John “Jack” Muhar’s office were pending. Criminal vehicular homicide is also a felony.
The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Saturday. Frahm was transported by ambulance to the Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Bearville First responders and the Cook and Nashwauk ambulance services.
Medure said investigators spent a great deal of time Monday reconstructing the accident. He verified that Braun was traveling with three others on the trail at the time of the accident, while Frahm was snowmobiling alone.
He also said that he was not aware of other snowmobiling accidents occurring at that point on the trail, adding that it’s up to snowmobilers to report such incidents.
