The ones who rely on this winter season to make they're living!

Anyone hearing any stories of permanent closures or bankruptcy's?

I'm sure some ski resorts and trail stops are majorly screwed.............

you feel bad for the 1 try spending over 500 for 5 sled for the whole family and insurance on all of them and only 2 of the sleds got rode 1 day up there a total of 178 miles.

Ialways reg Maine , NH , VT every year, this year I have 700 miles in Maine , 0 in NH 0 in VT
billyjoejimbob
ski resorts are doing fine i think i'll ride there at night if i dont get put in jail hehehehehe

Ski resorts did a good job with snow making.

If you paid and didn't ride at least you supported your sport!

I think every one should Buck up and PAY - I didn't waste my $140

I paid $140 for my 2 TMA'sand have 38 miles on them in VT. I have no regrets as VAST still needs money, the money isn't just for grooming, but for getting trail access, working with the legislature on the laws... lots of work behind the scenes, many trails had to be cleared, bridges...

Besides, many years in the past I have gotten much more than $140's worth of riding. VAST can't control the weather.

I have TMA's on 5 sleds myself and put about 100 miles on one of them in VT this season. This is the worst I have seen in the years I have been riding.

It would be great if VAST pulls in close to the usual number of TMA's and saves a bunch on grooming this season. My hope would be that they spend any surplus on more grooming in the lower section of the state next season. I know the trails are great in the NEK (when they have snow) but the lower section of the state sees the most sled traffic by far.

2 more grooming runs each week on 7 from Woodford to Shrewsbury alone would be great. Some of the areas like Mt. Tabor really should have their own dedicated larger groomer to better maintain the wide trails in that area that receive LOTS of traffic. Right now the groomer from the areas North and South (Manchester) have to meet in the middle, hit all the trails in the area and then head back.

I wonder if they have stats on how many sleds make that run each day (when we actually have enough snow to ride on)?

It will not shock me if VAST has to raise the prices on TMAs next season. TMAs have been the same price the last two and I don't think the lack of grooming this season will offset the cost increases of fuel, salaries, benefits, insurance, etc.

Not complaining, just sad and feel the need to vent:
2x VT TMAs but only ran 130 miles on one sled on December 23rd.
2x NH Registrations and 2x Maine Registrations for a combined total of 420 miles in the two states
2x Quebec Registrations; 900 miles
That's about $900 before I even started the sleds.

Besides the season sucking, I've had it with long drives to chase after the snow and the damn construction on interstate 91 in Greenfield MA too.

But the low point of this season so far for us was sleeping in our truck one night when a certain lodging establishment was not prepared for our late arrival as discussed, promised and confirmed. Some 20 year old kid decided to go to bed early vs. prepare our cabin. :banghead:

Yea, the greenfield bridge work is a mess. You can thank the railroad for that screw up. Took some people from mass government to get the fire lit under their asses and do what they had already been paid for.

I am really thinking about giving the sport up. I don't mind supporting VAST but with all the trail closures and crappy weather I just don't see much future in this sport. I have ridden a grand total of 40 miles this year with a huge amount invested in sleds, trailer, clothes etc. Most years I put on about 2000 VT miles and spend lots of money at local restaurants and sled shops. Very depressing. At the start of the season we were planning to buy a new sled at the end of the year and were looking forward to going to the spring consumer shows. Now we are considering selling sleds and have no interest in going to look at any new sleds. Sorry just had to vent... :banghead:

Yup, we're all pretty much in the same boat on this around the N.E. Some freinds of mine just went to Maine over the weekend, and said they had a good three days of riding. Seven hours of driving ain't for me.
I've sold off all my snowmachine stuff two times in years gone by due to consecutive bad snow years. I'm optimistic for at least one more good snowstorm, but the snow won't last at this time of the year, so I don't know....
I'll just put my stuff away, and give it a try next year. I doubt there's many people looking to buy anything now, unless yer givin' it away.
On the bright side, motor sickle season is coming fast, so I'm looking forward to that

By the way, for those that know, I thought about riding my bike up to the NEK this summer, but heard from some locals that the frost heaves up there are brutal. Is that so? :beerchug:

I know the frost heaves are bad up here, but I hope not in the summer! They usually disapear fairly quickly in the spring. One thing to watch out for though is the tons of dirt they use throughout the winter on the roads. That usually is around for a while.

I'm curious to see the TMA numbers this year. Our club and others in the county saw an increase in numbers from last year. I think people thought the season was going to be great and purchased their TMAs. Then the season went to hell. If that is the case, the groomers only get 33% of their money (4 weeks) either way if there is no snow. I'm thinking there should be a surplus of money after this year. Total speculation, but that's what we're here for!

Head to pittsburg awesome riding! Was there last week.

i didnt reg this year in vt........seeing i didnt go riding once....sux. so ill just spend that$ 115.00 on my tunnel ext instead. i think vt is ridiculous for charging more than anyone else. nh is right on their heels with the reg cost. i have no issues supporting trail work,......but it is getting ridiculous for out of staters. they should drop the price,....seeing that they make huge amounts of revenue from teddy town.....................hey teddy,...im over here frech11.gif

i reg. and ins. 3 sleds for 2 states and only one got ridden the winter sucked but that gos with it at least the money is there for the trail up keep
ArcticCatMike
I spent $210 on TMAs and I also had to re-register the Wife's sled and register and pay sales tax on my new sled. I've put 664 miles on my new sled so far. I haven't even put the stickers on my Wife's sled yet and probably won't the way winter is going.

This winter SUCKS !!!

Mike.

EDIT: Hey crossfire7snopro, nice sleds. I exspecially like the green one. :beerchug:
