Hey guys,
Here is what I did, I downloaded certain trails from the Wisconsin US Trails program intomy Garmin GPSMAP60cs. This program loades a buttload of waypoints and no actual trail marking. I then downloaded it to mapsource, connected the dots and erased the waypoints. Then i erased all the waypoints in my garmin and downloaded the tracks to my GPS

The first is the tracks I hand drew on Mapsource, the second is what i actually recorded from the GPSClick to view attachment dance_2.gif

humm looks good. I noticed that most of the firelanes and back roads up there are on the topo maps. but no the trails.

that really sucks there is no trail markings.......

Oo, you are on to something. I'm going to the Western U.P. this weekend, I have U.S. Trailmaps WI/U.P. Pro and MapSource Topo, and I agree, Topo is way better, so I would like to do this and help/share the gdb's too. I'm new to it, got my GPS 2 days ago, so how did you do it?

1. Download US Trails into GPS unit
2. Upload those trails from GPS unit to MapSource
3. Edit those routes in MapSouce.

I guess #3 is what I don't understand yet, since I haven't done it (I haven't done any of this yet to be honest), but I'll get crackin' and see what I can do.

I've been scouring the web looking for gdb's of the U.P. and WI to load in MapSource, but what I'm finding is pretty hit and miss.

EDIT - I find the TrailMaps software very frustrating, the route feature is tedious, and there is no Undo button if you click on a trail and it automatically picks a different route than you intended, you have to start over. It also won't route some trails that I would like to include in a route.

BTW, in mapsource, how do you pull in several different gdb files at once. I want to take all the gdb's I'm finding for the U.P. (in Topo) and load them all on my GPS so I have all the Western U.P. trails on my GPS for my trip this weekend. Gotta be able to do that, I just haven't figure it out yet (GPS newbie!).

Open a second instance of Mapsource...select the track(s) you want...right click...copy... then paste it into the other open Mapsource.

Got it, thanks. I have about half the tracks I want for my UP trip this weekend, can't find the rest. I have USTrailMaps but it is not loading routes to my GPS for some reason, their tech support could not figure it out either. ...

In a pinch print out a map of the tracks/routes/trails you want from USTrailMaps...then use the Track Draw Tool in Mapsource (Beta version) and create you own tracks using the printout as a guide.
