my buddies 99 is a strong strong runner.. at 6000 miles with minor clutching a set of vforce reeds a set of needles in the carbs and a boost bottle..
he also threw a set of psi heads at it.. got it dialed in and runs 110 speedo MPH
with stock pipe
he just added HTG twins last weekend all we did was upped the jetting and the only difference is he says it pulls harder in the mid range, with little low end loss and the same #'s but still tweakin on clutching
he loves it.. good sled. got it hookin up and goin good..
I don't have the clutching details or needle #'s off the top of my head..
but from what I can remember the stock pipe setup was
10-62's almond round with gray/blue 2ndary spring with the r12
for trails he throw 10-64's in it for lake burns and runs 110..

Bone stock they are bad on fuel, my 99 got 8 mpg, now with better jetting&clutching (the stock setup is terrible IMO) it is better , around 9.5 mpg.
A lot of info to find here for that sled.
Some things to look for:
starter rope - if it breaks , it can take out the water pump belt.
Water pump belt, I would change it before it decides to fail.
Check that the primer hoses are in good condition
