Ok guys as we know there is a lack of Gas for Snowmobilers in the south end!!!

Well there is a NEW PETRO CANADA @ Hwy 69 and the By-Pass. The trail passes just to the south (south is closer but you would have to cross 2 four lane HWY) and North East of the Gas Station (north east side would be the best as there is NO Hwy Crossing)

Wondering if there is any, off trails to the gas station (its all crown land back there). If not I would love to help some south end guys find a small parth to the Gas Station. Google Earth show that the trail is only about 1 mile away!!!!

I thought that was a DEISEL Transport fuel station for the 18wheelers dunno.gif aka no gas just diesel
CanadianLad
You are wrong about that all being crown land. 99.9% of the land in the south end is private land. Their used to be a trail out that way to Richard Lake off of Raft Lake but it has been discontinued. Perhaps their might be a way going straight after you come out of the tunnel on the By-pass but again it is all private land. First thing to find out would that station sell gas or is it diesel and second would they allow snowmobiles in there. I yhink it is strictly a truck stop if not I could and will talk to BDSA Club at the next meeting about it.??? Would need a new trail developed so it won't be this winter before land permission, trail layed out , brushed and signed or groomed.

i dunno where to get gas in that area... we are new to the sudbury trails and we just about ran out of gas north of estaire, now we know where to get it... boy is that neppawasi (don't know how to spell it) lake crossing slushy.
CanadianLad
The gas bar at the golf course was only open for a couple of years. It is not anymore as they weren't making any money and too much damage to the golf coruse from sleds.
Coming in from the south you can gas up in Estaire or Alban area and have plenty to reach the gas station off hwy 17 between Coniston and The Yamaha dealer. At one time you could also get gas at the variety store by the Brockdan but that also does not sell anymore gas, another place was Long Lake Variety just after you got onto Long Lake but I am not sure if they still sell gas.
A few years ago we tried to get permission to go across the back 40 to Canadian Tire but could not get land use permission even though most of the land we tried to go across has never been used. Would have been great as gas and restaurants all right there.

Man, found a group of guys from Parry Sound at the brockdam Hotel on fums....we need a Gas stop bad in this area...........

On a side note Good news right after crossing under the by pass, the trail passes next to a lake where you cross it and it goes right toward the Petro Canada.

Daranello, there is a shell gas station off paris street in the south end. To access it you need to follow the signs to Ramsey Lake and go over to Science North (on the end of the lake) then you jump over Paris street (four lane) on to the soccer feild to the gas station (you can't miss it once your on the soccer feild). :div20:

Yes it is possible to get to that shell on paris....but it is almost faster if coming from the Brockdan to run into lively.....as sad as that sounds....I live in the south end and its a royal pain to ensure my sled is filled up before I head out. At one time there was the place by the Brockdan....and there was talk of a esso/timmies going up by silver lake...but i think those plans are dead

Are you a club member, this sounds like a great reason to get involved if you are not. I know they are in need of help in the south end.
700Saber
I am a member...and have donated my time in the past (way too long ago)....as much as I tried I could not come up with a reasonable excuse why I do not volunteer anymore.

I live on Ramsey, so I know the shell well, but its not exacly easy to find if your not from around here, plus this is the 3rd time this winter I find people at the Brockdam so low on gas that they would NEVER make it to Science North Shell

don't think there is an esso/timmies going in at silver lake, they are starting the long Lake rd overpass this spring though.

Only places to get gas easily are in Estaire and at the petro Canada (Bob's) between the Yamaha dealer and Coniston (trail 85)
Used to be a bunch more but all have quit due to environmental reasons and poor gas sales (Variety 69 - Long Lake Variety-Golf Course and the list goes on). If you don't mind going down a few back strrets you can get to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar. I have done this in the past . Crossed at Long Lake Rd and went by the arena and then down a street to the Comfort Inn. I am sure if you looked you could get even closer across the back 40 behind the shoping center without going down streets. Doesn't bother me as much any more as I bought a four stroke and get 25 miles a gallon and I usually start around the Yamaha dealer area.
As for getting involved in the south end club we are always looking for new members. If you want I can let you know when the next meeting is and where. (I think it is Mar 21st at the Brockdan at 7:00pm)
