Wow that really sucks!

Feel bad for that club.

Thing's probably a total loss with the water damage.
trailhawk100
Stupid thing is that about a couple more miles up the trail they sunk another one about 4 weeks ago on the same section of trail, I was up that way and saw a big hole in the swamp where you could tell something big broke thru the ice. That section of trail is on nothing but beaver dams along that route. I would have gone and chopped holes to check ice thickness before I went across that area. I don't think it is a club groomer I think that is the one that sits at the Oasis by Sand Lake and it is run by the DNR
F7RAT
Yes it does belong to the DNR out of tower, how where the rest of the trail's around there,we are headed back up to orr again thurs.

HOLY Wow1.gif , judt imagine being in there when it was going down, do think there heart skipped a beat or two
firecatkid229
thats crazy!
trailhawk100
My heart wouldn't have had time to skip a beat, but I will say I would have crapped my pants in a real fast way, I saw this yesterday and then went grooming last night across our miles of swamps and had a hard time not thinking about these piks. and realizing how deep the bogs are where our trail goes kind of made me a little nervous traveling at 8 mph across these hopefully frozen parts of the landscape. I do have one spot on the trail that oozes water every time I go over it, even after many nights of below zero temps, but there are lots of tree roots and stumps for floatation there.
Ajinx
That had to be frightening! After growing up in swampy areas I have a deep respect for those bogs! I don't think a lot of people realize just how much it takes for some of those areas to freeze over.

Please Mr. trailhawk100 Groomer Sir, be careful out there. The last thing us HCS'ers want to hear about is U "crapped your pants in a real fast way" Wow1.gif

(Trailhawk100 and I are email Buddies, so I THINK I can get away with the Above Statement :smilielol: )

Ya Good one Ronder... Believe me the thought crossed my mind more than once last night about what I would do if it started going down, Wow not a very good thought at all. I know of a D-6 highdrive Cat that the Mine sunk out there about 2 miles north of where our trail hits the powerline, and they now have over 180 feet of Cable run off of a spool tied to this Cat that has been out there for about 10 years now, and the Cat was brand new when it sunk, the operator got out OK but said he has never been so scared in his life as the day it went down. Our trail is on part of that bog on the south end of it, we cross about 2-3 miles of it total

yeah im it does suck that the groomer broke through. im a member of that club that ones that groomer and we are down to one groomer and a pull behind sled groomer. The club is the ELY Igloo snowmobile club. they were able to get a cat(bulldozer) in there and pull it out.
trailhawk100
Ya I heard they pushed a new path to it on high ground to get to it. Crazy weather this year a guy never knows how froze things are unless you cut a hole and check things out first before you venture out into it
