Well watching my favorite news station last night and this huge warm front that came through is sweeping up around Iceland and pushing cold air down over Canada again. The weather is going to turn to the way it was at the beginning of December. This change will take about a week before we really see a big change. This weather guy loves snow and keeps an eye on conditions. I believe this guy and it does make sense.

Anyone wanta bet???
rob
wishful thinking, perhaps? I'll believe it when I see it. Until then here is the NWS forecast for Island Pond:

Looking at the 10 day models (obviously take them with a grain of salt) there's nothing on the radar screen. Cold is locked up in Canada. Hopefully this year will at least be like last year with tons of snow in February. If not, I don't know if I can handle a 2 week season.

Thanks Rob for the site. I went on there and looked up this up North Atlantic Ocean regional imagery, 2006.01.19 at 1345Z. Centerpoint Latitude: 55:06:24N Longitude: 56:18:54W.

This is the past storm thats heading through Newfoundland as we speak. The prevous warm weather has been doing the same thing but this one is the iceing on the cake to really push the cold weather back down. Its supposed swing over Iceland and push an arctic front back down.

I'm trying to find northern Canada's extended forecats?

What else is there to do? Freaken can't go ridden

Check out the weather page at Mad River Glen. http://madriverglen.com/?Page=weatherx.php

These guys have been spouting gloom and doom since Christmas Eve when things started going down the toilet. There attitude has changed lately and hopefully their predictions are right.

Think Snow!

they're not really saying much either.. I don't trust any predictions that are aimed at a target market (skiers).

My own prediction is that it will stay like this to mid-february, then we will have a snowy late-feb and march. But is a 3 week season really worth it? Going to hurt a lot of people this year.

I hear what you are saying about trusting predictions aimed at skiers. I guess I am just grasping for any positive sign or trend at this point.

Your point about this weather hurting a lot of people this year is well taken and I hope you are wrong about a 3 week season. TMA's sales are going to be way down this year and the local sled shops are going to be in trouble. My fingers are crossed that things turn around after tomorrow and we finally get back to winter conditions.

Our club will be out this weekend cleaning up the mess left when the Mad River flooded on Wednesday. The trails down by the river look like the beach after a hurricane, drift wood everywhere.

Well here I go again.

I'm gonna get drunk tonight and run around the back field doing my snow dance 100% nude.

Actually, our TMA sales were up this year since there was so much snow early. Last year we had nothing until February. I think you'll find it's not as bad as you think since it looked like an awsome year was on tap.
The people getting hurt are the Inns and Motels. I went by the Changing Seasons in St. J last Saturday and there were no cars at all. Zero. Got to be hurting those people the most.

i dont feel that bad for the motels since most have almost doubled their rates in the last three years. any truth to the rumor that a certain motel in st j attempts to jam cell phone service to force patrons to use motel phone at $2 min

Where is that? Never heard that one.

Before I checked in here today I was checking 14 forecast for Quebec, I have a trip planned starting on 1/26. Long range up there is calling for Below average temps starting sometime next week-end. Lets just hope we have enough snow to go with the cold to salvage Feb & march! :beerchug:

Yes and a lot of the motels also cater to the skiers.Maybe if some of these motels updated their establishments to go along with the rates more people would visit Vermont for it's other beautys. Flush.gif

I think its the mountains that jam cell service in most Vermont ares. You just have to accept the fact that right now its not a given to use your cellphone anywhere you want in Vermont.

Well at least the temps are finally going to stay below freezing for the week so that is a good start. Hope the snow shower forecasts turn into something more significant!

What kind of phone do you have?
Ive found that carrying a Tri mode phone ( Covers PCS, CDMA, and AMPS) means if there is anybodys tower nearby, you will have signal. I have personally been up in the sticks, and friends nextels, cingulair and others didnt work. But my Verizen would have a signal.
Again, I stress Tri-Mode, because most people buy a regular digital phone, and they cant handle the older cellular towers or other technology formats.
