Put on about 80 miles Saturday. Started a little late - around 9am - from the Adams lot near Twin Brooks and headed north - up 7A to 7. As usual, the powerlines were rough but after that things were really good - about a 8 out of 10. Still not a lot of snow and a few rocks poking through but nothing to compain about. Airport Rd to Kelly Stand Rd. was great. Got stopped by a cop checking TMAs - all good - once he saw the stickers, he just waved up by. Best riding was 7N from Kelly Stand up to just past the parking area a few miles before Jenk's. After the parking area, the trail had not been groomed recently and was rough. I thought Jenk's did this area and can't understand why it wasn't done. It kept 6 of us from heading that way for food and fuel. So we decided to head back towards Woodford since the trails in that direction were nice.
Got lunch at Twin Brooks - NEVER AGAIN. The food is just OK but the service SUCKS and it's way too expensive. Watching those two women move in slow motion (and complain about it) while 15+ people waited to order was a joke.
After a lousy, expensive lunch, we took a quick trip south on 7 and it was absolutely perfect. The scenery was great and the trails had plenty of snow. We only went about 3 miles down and headed back to the parking lot because the handwarmers quit on my buddy's wife's sled. Not a good thing but she lasted as long as she could.
All in all, it was a great day of riding and, believe it or not, even with all the traffic, I didn't have one close call as the point man in our group. Everyone stayed on their own side of the trail and we didn't see one group of wannabe racers!

we never bother to stop and eat, or get gas at the mall, or at jenks, way too much $$$$$$$$$$$$ .. we just head straight up to belmont...only about 65 miles from adams parking lot
and there's a ton of offshoot trails to take , if you get bored with the main trail

we were up there saturday as well parked in the adams lot. started at 8 and did 160 miles. rode to jenks and payed 3.50 for gas. then continued up 7N to mount tabor. After we got by that guys private ski trail the trails were MINTTTTTTT i was considering turning around, but so happy i didnt. it was well worth the rough stuff. We also found the trail up glastonbury mountian, which was definitly an experiance. I cant imagine goin up there after a big storm. it was worth the hike though.

I hear ya about heading to Belmont but when the trails are rough even before getting to Jenk's, I don't usually bother heading any farther north since I know I'll have to come back over those same shitty trails. Plus it always seems like the grooming is very hit or miss on 7 heading North of Jenk's towards Belmont.
I don't mind spending a few bucks at Jenk's. They're nice people and they've helped us out of a tough spot before. I'll never spend another $ at Twin Brooks if I can help it.

I think that the trails on the other side of the road (after the ski area, heading North) are groomed by a different club. Man, that kinda pisses me off that we didn't take our chances with the trails near Jenk's. Oh well. I've made te trip up towards Mt. Tabor/Belmont many times before. I love the tight, twisty woods trails up there (when they're groomed). :div20:

I am glad you had a great time!!I stopped riding there about 10 years ago for many different reasons.Like you said, too many Blair Morgan wannabes!Problem with Whoopford is that it's only 2 or hrs away for Ct,RI,Mass,so every tom, dickand harry is up there lookin to qualify for "rider of the day".Not enough trails in that area so basically there is one way up to Jenks and one long-rough ride back to the parking lot.Requirements needed to ride Whoopford consists of:a jockstrap for the wicked ballslappin'of sled's gas tank,a Tek-vest,a kidney belt,Advil for the aches and pains after the ride.On the serious side,I have found midnight riding the best.

if you park at adams parking lot....leave the lot,, and hang a left...its not a groomed trail..go up the powerlines, about 2 miles, and hang another left into the woods, cross rt 9 and it leads right to trues

:banghead: put 210 miles on in Woodford this weekend. On saturday we got a late start (11:00), left from heartwilville and rode tp Jenks and back, and were back at 3:00 96 miles.
On Sunday we bypassed the center of woodford and trailered into the Airport. We rode from there to The Danby Store and back 114 miles. Trails are getting beat. Lots of rocks and ice on the way back. I'm done riding until we get more snow.
I just watched the news and there calling for 40 degree weather and rain this week :banghead:

I road Woodford yesterday. First tracks on a fresh 2-3 inches from Airport Road to Jenks. Left Airport road heading North at 6:30AM. Yeah, we are those guys.  Two 2004 Yellow REV 800's for those who were there.
Trails were Fu**ing awesome!!! Best time I ever had. put on 80 miles total, and were back on the trailer at 10:00. Hats off to the groomers in Woodford. MR and the other guys, you ROCK....
Also, I am interested in finding that fire tower. Where is that??

There's a very small trail on the left about 3 miles or so up Airport Rd. heading north.
I think I saw it on Saturday and it was marked by an orange ribbon tied to a tree branch. You can also get there from a offshoot trail on Kelly Stand Rd.
Long ride up on singletrack trail (one way) and another long ride down. It comes out on 7A.

On the Woodford Trails map, thats Glastonbury Mountain, off 7A. Its marked as a " Primitive " trail. Ive rode it once, and was worrth the rough ride.
Id love to meet the guys who break that trail after a big dump there. I cant imagine that loop in 24" of fresh powder.

yeah maybe it is the same one i went up to. i did a tour with high country snowmobiling and since it was just my friend and i on one sled and the tour guide, he ventured out a little more than if there were more than just 2 sleds in the group. it was a long ride up that one way trail, but well worth it! i remember at one point after having trouble with a tough turn going up, the sled pulled off the trail a little bit. i jumped off for a sec and fell waist deep in the snow (i'm 6ft 3). i couldnt believe how much snow there was up there.
i got some pics somewhere around here, i'll have to scan them and put them online

Hey mfpukala1, Was your tour guide John C ? We used him as a guide also last year. Awsome guy. We were also a small 2 sled ride by choice, on a Monday Am ride.
I have a few pics too, will try to scan after lunch.

i cant remember who it was, real cool guy though. my friends and i gave high country some good business over the course of 2 winters and we kept getting the same tour guide, so he kept hooking us up with great rides and what not.
what part of CT you from? i recently moved to MA from cheshire, where i grew up.

Passed the Ski area going north and over the road (route 11/30) the trails are groomd by Green mountain and a Seld Touring company that leaves out of the summit lodge. So there normaly pretty good.

mfpukala11, I grew up in Wallyworld, right next door ! Small world !
I did High country last year, and likly again once it cools off a bit. 6 years of riding, but sled less last year and this. Doing the ATV thing at the moment, but will be back with a sled next year or two.
For now its MUCH cheaper to rent than own!!!
This was March of 2005, on the Somerset reservoir.
What a Day !

sounds about right, but you take the advil in the morning before you head out.
after midnight is my favorite time to ride, seeing as where the only ones on the trails.

There is a sign there now--Glastenbury Mountain with other signs for the tower once you hit the trail.
