Maybe some coyotes fed on that kill, But I would not be so sure they brought it down unless it was sick. Most deer kills will be in deeper snow where the coyote has the advantage. On a flat, groomed trail, the deer would probably outrun the coyote. Besides, if the deer population is anything like it is around here, we can stand to loose a few to coyotes. They do a good job of culling the herd.

being a hunter and seeing alot of dead deer -- that one was clearly run over -- look at its hips! its the foodchain man - everything has got to eat - i aint fond of the coyotes, i shoot every one that i see - but hell, gotta give em a fair chance at survival-- its hard for them to outrun a .270 !!!!

This was in my drive way and not run over, you can see where they ran it down the hill and got in the driveway. Gota love the 270 that's what I shoot also and have never seen a coyote( or a deer) out run one yet! :div20: :div20:

Pictures taken on our trip to Maine last year, came across this cabin on the trail and stopped and talked tot he guy, he hunts them, calls them in.
We have a hunt a few times a year where I hunt in VT, run a pool, get quite a few each time.

So, what do you do with the dead coyotes after you've shot them ? Skin them and turn in their hides ?
Got some coyotes down here in MA around our neighborhood and I think I'm gonna have to weed some of them out.
what do you usually hunt with, .270? I've been looking at a .243, but not sure yet.

In MA it runs from beginning of Nov. (except for the two weeks during shotgun deer season) until the end of Feb.

Banone:
I shoot them with my 270 because that's all I have other than an 06. If I where buying a gun just for coyotes I would look at a 223. You don't need a lot of gun to kill a coyote and with no real recoil you will shoot it better. If you are looking at a 243 to use for deer also I would get one, verry low recoil on this gun also and you won't have any problem's with taking deer. Good Hunting!
