You're going to want to trailer much farther north than STJ. I'm heading up there tonight to service some sleds but from what I'm hearing I'm not expecting to do any riding. My guess is there is about 8" of snow on the ground in the twon of STJ which isn't nearly enough. My advice to you is to seek out the high elevation trails.
Good luck.

Some of the trails up that way might be decent but I would guess that a lot of trails, especially those around town or in the woods are going to be very rough and muddy.
Gotta figure the trails are only going to have about 1/2 of what's showing on Rob's webcam because of the packing and the traffic.

that is true a buddy of mine went up there last week and that was with all the rain and crappy weather and he said that the rideing was pretty good and as long as they got 6"s more snow it would be real nice but he said to definatley go

WELL this is brighton's latest trail conditions:
We finally have a report that you will be happy to see. Yesterday we received 3 to 4 inches of new snow in the downtown area and 4 to 6 in the mountains. Currently we are receiving light snow showers.
The groomers were out last night and with the new snow, reported a much better trail system.
We are reporting the logging roads as very good to excellent and all other trails good to very good with an occasional section that may have an open water bar or just an area which may need additional snow to smooth it up.
For those of you that are looking for some good riding, we believe that you will be pleased with what is out there. Come up and emjoy the trails with us, but continue to ride with caution, ride within the flagged areas only and stay off all bodies of water.
Who thinks prozac boy will be makin a trip up to IP???? :bitch1:

TOTALLY different world up here from St Johnsbury. Don't go by that. And I hear the local trails are bad up here even with the latest round of fluff. We need more snow and some cold nights.

I would not even THINK of riding out of St J... Island Pond is a different story, but even up there it will be early conditions.

well that sucks man we are all ready to go room and everything guess i have nothing to look forward to now
I know it's a drag, but read the "Brighton Snowmobile Club" thread in this forum. You only will feel worse by spending a bunch of money and having a lousy time. Either wait a week or two or go further north, like Canaan or even Pittsburg.

Hey Rob, how about Sawyerville or La Patric? I.E. north of New Hampshire?
Did you ride last week out of St. Raymond? or did you have to drive further north?
Mt. Valin looked pretty decent. Roberval as a truck base? In Vt. around Burke
OK @ higher elv. Down low no snow no go! East mt. good

first of all the weather cam is in Walden which is different than St. Johnsbury- but I would say go north! Newark is pretty nice and to Island Pond to Canaan in my opinion is worth the ride  We have had 5 inches of fluff but we are in the higher elevations so it has been colder :fluffy:

FF dude. With good trails St J to IP is a little over an hour by sled. Heed the warnings, go north of St J. I do not think you will make it out of town, the trails will be bare. By truck and trailer you can be in IP in 45 minutes more. Now I am not telling you that IP will be good right around town (ask Prozac Boy) but it would be worth staying there as compaired to St J. Listen to the Vermonters, we may like flannel but we do know where and when to ride.

Last time I said something negative I got fried so from now on everything is mint. Could be riding on a gravel road and Im just going to give the ole... :div20: I do agree with everyone else you'll need to trailer at the very least to IP. With some grooming and the 6 or 8 inches of snow things may be better.

I think I saw somewhere I don't remember where that during the week they had picked up another 6-8 inches. Rob would know he lives up there. I have ridden to St. J's before and you really need some good snow and I know they don't have it. Trailer you'll be alot happier. If you don't want to go all the way to IP see how Burke looks and unload there. There's a church and a playground that people unload from. I would drive the extra 20 minutes but it's all about what you can tolerate. :beerchug:

Weeza's, Rob's, and the many other dedicated souls trail reporting here are giving ya the straight scoop...heed info from the comfort inn....they wanna rent rooms and could give two hoots on what you ride on. (Well maybe they care a teeny bit..but the whole truth isn't gonna make reservations).
I have good friends in St. J off the trails & you ain't getting out of there...
My friends are riding today cuz I'm working :banghead: I'm anxiously waiting on their report......
Go High in the Northeast Kingdom if ya want any decent riding.
p.s. Prozac Boy - I love the motto man.! Dat's Mint :div20:

Just got back from a week at my camp in the NEK (Kirby) and was able to put on 550, not bad for this time of year. Hit a rock around 25 miles out on Tuesday bent front axel but my budy Bob from Kingdom Cat dropped one by that night on his way home and I was ready to go Wednesday morning. dance_2.gif
As of yesterday (Friday) everything we rode on to get to Cannan was groomed that day. We past groomers 4 all together on the pipeline, power line 102, Rt 98, Rt 96 and 105. I am not saying we are at midseason conditions but it was ride able. Not sure how well it will hold up to allot of traffic today. It was a pretty good week

just got back i rode 250 miles sat and sunday right out of st.j and i thought it was fine but everyone is different in opinion the way i see it is i have way to much money invested to wait around for snow thats not even on the radar for anyone who is planning on riding i rate the trails at a 6 or 7 i mean we rode from st.j to ip hit the pipe line/powerlines and only rode 1 or 2 shitty trails even the trails with lotle snow werent anything to cry about we rode in some areas with 4" of snow and further north we were in 10-12" of snow oh yeah ant the railroad tracks were smooth got that firecat pinned for miles...

Glad you had a good ride. You are correct, good conditions to some are not good conditions to others. I did 25 miles this weekend in the Wheelock / Stannard area. Conditions weren't bad but weren't conditions I wanted to ride in or put my sled through for 125 miles. Have a great year and stay safe!

I ride St J trails and they are great. You won't see a foot of snow on the trail but the cover we have is good.
The trail out of Comfort Inn is groomed and OK. Once you make your way past St. J to Kirby Mtn the trail turns to excellent. Don't listen to people that haven't ridden these trails.
There is some open water in the field by Sleepers river( by the tube underpass)
Ride St. J. and I think you wil be impresed.
