Can anyone tell me what the condtions are on the Hill? We are heading to the Montague on Sunday and I am hearing that there is alot of mud around there. The guys in my group have new sleds and they are going to be really pissed at me if I convince them to go and all we hit is mud. I keep hearing that if we head towards Copenhagen things are pretty good. Is that the case? I need to cancel my reservations by tomorrow.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

rode Carthage thru Copenhagen to Tuggers (Barne's Corners) yesterday...VERY THIN coverage off the hill. Ran into some buds who were on the hill over the weekend and they said there was lots of snow and the groomers were out Sunday PM.....stay off the main corridore between Flat Rock and Timberview (as always)
Good Luck...may see you there too !!!
For pretty accurate conditions log onto
http://www.absolutesnowmobile.com/trail_conditions_003.htmwww.wixt.tv for local weather forecast for the Hill.
I went thru the area on Sat. (New Year's Eve). Very poor, especialy north of Redfield.
Osceola, Florance, & 46 Corners will have the most snow, if it dosn't melt.
Good Luck.

I agree with taperk, I was there last weekend until Sunday and things were getting rough on Flat Rock and Rector. The better trails for us were down around Barnes Corners and Copenhagen, but there were some mud holes. I have a brand new crossfire and it got some mud on the skis and underneath but most of the holes are freezing up so they weren't that bad. I am hoping to get up this weekend with snow falling starting tonight through Sunday according to the weather channel.

Nice looking trails, wish we were there. Hope they stay that nice for this Wednesday.
Well went to the hill again on Saturday 1/7/06. Did 163 miles, here are a few pictures.
First one is a shot of the group, every sled in picture was with us, a few to many for my liking. 11 in all, 3 came in from Virginia, flew into Syracuse and met up with 4 more from Syracuse, 2 from Ohio and me and another hcs member drove up from LeRoy. This was taken in front of Tugger's after breakfast.
Second shot is all you see around FlatRock.
Third and Fourth shot was taken around 8:00 pm at Talbits Corner or (5 corners) not sure on spelling. Would believe this would have been club Timberview
Well this is what we did unloaded at Barnes Corners, rode to Montague Inn to meet up with other guys. Rode back to Barnes Corners for breakfast at Tuggers. After leaving from here rode by Flat Rock and saw all the wind mills then to the gorge then to Timberview as some one needed a screw for there shield. From there to Sportsmen then to Ciderpines. After leaving Ciderpines we headed back to truck.
All in all very good, best riding was the trails around Barnes Corners, and the worst was the ride from Sportsmens to Ciderpines very rough. We saw the groomer leave Ciderpines heading up to the Sprotsmen well we were there having a burger but he only went out about 5 miles and turned back around.

We rode on Saturday, 13 in our group. Unloaded at Highmarket and rode to Flatrock then onto Montague... Then on to Lacona into Redfield around to North Osceola and home to Highmarket for one heck of a ride. Put on 130+ miles Saturday trails were awesome, from Montague to the DEC drop at the end of Salmon River Road was the best riding I have seen since late last season! After that point some of the trails were a little rough but hey you cant expect perfect trails all the time... To top it all we found out today Highmarket Sports is now open 24 hrs from friday to sunday, useful info for those of us who ride late into the night.

Hey Matty, your best off unloading in Redfield. There are a couple parking areas for trucks and trailers on the south end of Redfield. From there you can bomb the Hill all day. They sell Tug Hill maps at every gas station on the way up to Redfield. I can't tell ya what trails are the best to ride, you'll just have to feel your way around Tug Hill. The maps are pretty good and point out all the bars and resturants. Even some dealerships if you break down.

I also put in at the south end of Redfield, You have to check condtions as they are calling for rain midweek.

Here's a trail report. I went out with the 350 at 5:50 pm. ( Got back about midnight) Did rector, flat rock, parker, and mudd creek loop. Bartender at Montague said traffic sunday and monday was pretty low, so the trails weren't beat up bad. Now they're quite nice. The 250 did the route to Highmarket (centerville, lenards lane, french, graves, #9, and north rds). He said those trails were pretty good. So, ride if you can.

I rode today and here's an honest report. Dropped at Winona State Forest at Noon. Got to Cedar Pines in Redfield for lunch then headed to Flat Rock Inn, then Montague and back to Winona with a quick side trip up and down Culpepper Road just for the fun of it. Got back to the truck exactly at 5PM. 114 miles in 5 hours and that included at least 45 minutes at the Cedar Pines. Was going to head up to Barnes Corners but called ahead to Tuggers and they were closed. If I was heading up tomorrow I'd park at the lot at the end of the paved section of Little John Road. Ride down to Redfield, up to Flat Rock over to the Montague Inn (take Rowsom road off Flat Rock over to Rector to get to Montague it's a lot smoother than Flat Rock Road) and then go to Barnes Corners cruise the Sno Pals trails and then back down to the Little John Lot. That run will go about 130-140 miles. The best trails today were in the Redfield area and I gotta believe based on Culpepper road that the Sno Pals trails are in great shape since they usually are. Today the trails from Winona to the Little John lot were the roughest. The Winona trails are usually great, today they were in serious need of grooming. On the way home we hit Blount Mills Road right after the groomer and it was sweet.
At 1:30 today it got super sunny and damn if I didn't have to put the shades on. Really a great day of riding. Good luck tomorrow...hopefully it won't rain

trails were great! anyone on the fence about goin will kick themselves in the ass if they dont!
