No it's snowed over now, we ran out there today for a looksy
Lake was good and flat great snow cover, seen very little wet/slushy spots. The only thing to watch for is a sled sized fresh open spot right in front of the causeway crossing on the south side of hwy 7A, lots of room to go around for now, as long as every one stays off or out of the hole she'll close back up in no time at all, bullrushes were just knocked down yesterday.
Also they moved the ice racing/bike track from the boat launch area to right out in front of town

I was out on Soldiers bay yesterday...guys are running up to Holland landing marina...but no farther, you can tell everyone is getting the itch, I also ran cooks bay, stopped out in the middle (not by choice) and it was fine, there are a couple ice huts out there already...I figure tommorow there will be tracks all the way up the river..

Well, Kevin, I think I am not headed out today. I was hoping for some racing on the canal or something. Harmony's sled isn't running, TPS is outta whack!
She's baking cookies and I am gonna do some work on the sled!
Next weekend on Monday or Tuesday, we will be riding!!!!
Parry Sounds lakes aren't doing so great, as they are getting snowsqualls and have over 3 feet on the ground!!!

It seems the lakes in the south are doing better than the north...
Here's a report on the lakes I passed this week-end.. Although I'm certainly not responsible, check your own ice...
Rice lake - Bewdley - a few slushy spots, passable
Scumbog - lots of people out...
Crystal Lake - Still a few open spots, don't stop..
happy trails..

Went about 3-4 miles up the east shore of Rice Lk from The Rhino and the slushy spots turned black and almost open so we hightailed it back. The Granny was OK eastbound from Noones to Bewdley with some rocks and and a fair amount of gravel pokin thru but goin back west was pretty good. The hill up to the E108 from Noones was gettin nasty.

Sorry to hear about the meltdown. Ran Rice Lake Friday and Sunday could only find a couple of slushy spots (surface slush). Ran from Bewdley (Rhino's) to Elmhurst Resort on the north shore, everything was good.
We tried to run the Indian river but had to turn back at the Keene bridge as it was too slushy to continue.

Morrison Lk closed up this weekend and the family was skating in our bay on 3-4 inches of good ice. Looks like it might be good for a run by the weekend.

Hopefully this fresh blanket doesn't insulate it too much. -23 Tues day night is looking good!!

Lake Vernon in Huntsville is finally closing up, the big part was open on saturday ( day time ) but had skimmed over by yesterday morning. The back end by Peacock Bay was closed up, not sure how thick, but after this weeks temps, no problems running the back end.

unlikely much ice. Even if there is, it will be super patchy patches!!! even some smaller lakes have had ice in parts for weeks, but the middle is wide open. When they do freeze... watch out cuz it could have a foot around the shore and 3 inches in other spots.
stay off the lakes around there for at least 2 weeks with this weather IMO.

I was up to Catchacoma lake on the weekend. Saturday Jan.13 there was 0 ice. Sunday morning it was froze out 200 - 300 feet from shore. Ice was about 1" thick.
This week should really help with the cold temps.
Should be perfect for skating next weekend.

I know I will be on Scugog this weekend getting a few breakin miles on the new ride. There should be lots of sleds out there, and probably a good 8" of ice with the cold weather. I might even have the radar out!

I was at the cottage on Chandos yesterday and it is frozen across except for a spot just east of the narrows. Neighbour walked out off his dock and it held but weekend before it was wide open. I think we will wait a while before going out. A few seasoned sledders in the area said give another week or so.
