If anyone has info on LH conditions, could you give an update.
Also, appreciate info on fields from Fern. sportsmen area.
I'm hearing that 6-10" are expected around there but some freezing stuff is in the area as well. Hope to ride this weekend sometime.

Thanks in advance...

I'm taking tomorrow (Friday) off work and am planning on going up to LH to ride. I'm definately going unless I see indications not to. If anyone else can, or wants to go let me know and maybe we can meet up. I'll report back on conditions when I return. :beerchug:

saturday night we rode from my cabin near 7-Springs all the way to Wallet's on 30. The trails were tracked up a little but we didn't pass a single sled on the way there. All the gates were open and there weren't any vehicles in the parking lots or club house. Over by the turnpike bridge it was rocky on both sides but thats expected over there. Trails were better than most of the times I road all of last year due to few sleds on the trail. Laurel Summit road was 90mph all the way. Over Wallet's there was about 10 to 15 sleds in the lot. We road all night and didn't get back till 4am. I could not believe how good it was and I almost left for home saturday night, glad I tried it.
littletuggy
we rode on the 13th all day. we only seen 5 sleds all day. the trails leaving the parking lot along route 31 was a little rough but north of the pike was good. around 7 springs was good too. the dcnr was doing there thing. the speed limit is 45mph on all trails "but" it is NOT posted anywhere. so would a speeding ticket still stick or not? we are riding the week after christmas up in the allegany national forest" the loop " my brother lives up there and they have 2 to 2and a half feet of the fun stuff.

Rode the north sde of LH this evening and it was very nice. As Bob, GoCaps, said, the trails were nicer tonight than anytime I managed to make it up there last year. The north side does not appear to have been goomed anytime recently. It was really choppy at the turnpike crossing (as usual) but the other trails were getting a little rough. The turnpike crossing, by the way, had little to no rocks showing anywhere. Talked with 3 guys in the lot on 31 and they said they rode to the south (only to 7-springs) all day and it was very good as well. I forgot to ask if they had groomed down there.

I plan on meeting Bob up there around 7:30-8:00 am tomorrow. I have a red Titan with 2-place open trailer and a red 03 F7 sno-pro.

catpack469, Allentown is at least 200 miles from the LH area. Probably take a good 3.5+ hours to get there.

i took my boy to a snowmobile safety class at the LH's and there were 4 dcnr officers also and they told all 50 people that were there that the trail speed limit this year will be 45mph. that is who told us. my thing is if you get a ticket for doing say 55mph would it stick. there are no posted signs anywhere!!!! and yes the two dcnr officers we seen of the 13th one to the north and one to the south of route 31 did have rader guns. 'cause we stop across the field from them and looked thru the binoculars and there it was pointed right at us. e-mail the LH's snowmobile club and see for yourself.....

Visitor services directive clearly states no use of radar guns by DCNR. They may have been working with PSP. 45 mph that is a new one. Maximum speed limit on State Forest Roads is 25 mph unless otherwise posted, Title 18 7505 Rules regarding traffic on comm. property clearly states it. There has been case law that states DCNR does not have to post its speed limits like Penn Dot. What you see on the Rules and Regs sign (25 mph) stands up just fine in court. Do tell who these 4 DCNR officers were.
littletuggy
the guy at the LH's club he could tell you who the 4 dcnr guys were!!!!
his name is jim wilkinson phone #724-925-2073
or contact the pssa at fred-brown@comcast.net
or whynotbobk@yahoo.com
i don't like it ether but i am JUST TELLING YOU WHAT WE WERE TOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe they were fake radar guns i don't know BUT THEY WERE THERE!!!!!!!!

Rode from the north side of Rte 30 down south to Rte 653 past 7 springs. A fun 120 miles. Fields were great, trails were good. Trails on 7 spring side were groomed pretty good.

Rode on Saturday with Quadracer. We did 66 miles before he had to cut the day short as he had to get to a X-mas party. I rode some more and put a total of 104 miles on. Quadracer rode north of the turnpike on Friday, so we headed south of Rt. 31 on Saturday. We both parked on Rt. 31 (DNR grooming shed parking area). The pix with the windmill are south of the Rt. 653 parking area. We turned around and headed back north from there. Some trails were very fast. The last pic is facing north at the high area just north of the turnpike (turnpike at my back). After Quadracer left I went across the turnpike. Laurel Summit Road was FAST! Beam Run Rd. was bumpy and narrow, and Hickory Flats Road (not sure about the name, no map in front of me) was flat and fast! I was going to ride Sunday morning, but I came home to spend time with the wife and kids! Was a pretty good thing, as within half an hour of being home the neighbor came over and had tickets to the Capitals and Panthers game tonight. And they were in an executive suite! Awesome! The Caps lost, but we had a good time. Having your own bathroom is nice with a 7 and four year old. First time in a suite. Pretty cool!!!

Rode a bit by myself on Sat. for the same reasons. People had Xmas parties to go to. Sleds look familiar now that I've seen the pix. Got a late start >12 so I didn't hit Rte 31 until about 3pm. If ya see me on the trial, give a holler. Always game to catch a ride!

I may be up next Monday the 26th for the day with the wife and kids, or we may come up for the day on Thursday the 29th. Not sure yet!

Hi Bob. Glad to see you got some additional miles on. I did talk to Tim to see if he could ride with you on sunday, but I guess on his last ride last year he tore up his track and hasn't put a new one on yet. I guess it worked out anyway since you went home and then to the hockey game (awesome luck on that one!).

Pilz...I saw a sled very similar to yours on Saturday down near 7-springs, but I doubt it was you since, I believe, you come down from the north side of 30. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you. I end up riding by myself probably too often.

Bob...let me know if you come up on the 26th. That might be a good time for me to try to expose my girlfriend to snowmobiling.

Hey Dave,
I saw a sled that look like yours go past my cabin on Saturday at about 11am. Was that you?
QuadRacer
Hey Jon. How's everything going? Yep, that was Bob and me. We went on an accidental boonedoggle and ended up down there. We ended up talking with the man that has the club groomer. He mentioned your place was nearby. Hopefully we didn't cause too much trouble with the neighbors.

Hopefully we can meet up and ride again sometime.

Could have been. I rode from north of 30 to the parking lot at 653 and back. Got to 653 around 4pm. luxhello.gif

On sunday rjf7 and i parked at walats to clutch his sled and i was working on a friends machz. After we were done testing we rode the north side of rt 30, plenty of snow and not much traffic. You have to know where to ride so you stay off the gamelands till they open.
sledneckf7snopro
Hey guys,
I have been reading your posts for two seasons now looking for updates in the Laurel Highlands area. I have seen pics of your sleds and I believe that I saw some of you guys on Saturday. I live about 30 minutes from Laurel Hill State Park. That is where we usually park unless we park at Sculton(653). Anyways, hopefully I will get a picture of my sled here soon. This is my second season on my red 03 F7 Snopro. My buddy rides an 01 Edge 700 (red) also. If you guys ever see us, stop and say hello. We have been sledding for years, but are always looking for people to ride with. Thanks for all the trail updates!!
Pilz
I plan to ride Sat. Will keep an eye out on the trails and at the usual rest stops (Walats,...)
Might be riding with a 96 red formula.
GoCaps
Hope your Sat. ride is a good one! Keep us posted if you aren't too busy with X-mas stuff!

we parked at route 31 and rode south to the wind mills. does anyone have any info about that area. if you go thru the field and keep going south the trail ends and one of the gates are still closed. why? or did i just miss a turn somewhere? any info would be a plus for the next ride. we got back to the parking lot at 3:00am. the trails thru the area of cherry lane, jones mill road, and the maple summit snowmobile club were all groomed. very nice ride'n.... we seen about 15 sleds..
xc800
If your talking about the gate at the game lands, your just supposed to ride around it. It is there just to keep the trucks out.
G5301
I think the game lands are still closed till after muzzel loader season, just the state parks, and private land is legal to ride on now.
catpack469
what are the snow conditions like out that way...was planning on going to ny for mon and tues but the rain has killed all of that....any quick info would be greatly appreciated
littletuggy
the windmills that are just south of route 653 are they just below sandy run road. i'm just trying to find out where we were that nite. also where is the maple summit snowmobile club at? we stoped at a sign along a trail that said m.s.s.c. is that it or what?
we went down a trail and ended up where the groomer is parked by a camp.
where were we? any info would be nice!!!! hoping to go back up this weekend if there is snow left....

after you came out of that field you must have made 2 quick lefts and got on the groomer access trail and thats how you ended up in Dave's yard. If you would have kept going straight when you came out of the field you would have came to route 653 trail head, keep going a few mile more and you will eventually come out at the wind mills.
littletuggy
thanks xc800 i will be trying it again soon.

I knew that it was supposed to snow Sunday night, but didn't think it would matter much. Looks like I should have taken the wife and kids for the day after all Wow1.gif :augen41: :fluffy:

we rode tuesday night about 9:00pm till 1:00am started out on route31 rode to route 30. condition were good there was a broke down red ski-doo on beam run. we rode to linn state park and back to route 31 parking lot. it was a nice 65 mile ride. about 9:15 pm at the turnpike bridge i seen a sled with green headlights. just wanting to know how good can you see the trails and bumps. i'd like to get the green headlights. we seen 25 sleds that night.
xc800
I have a red head light cover on my sled and I can't see shit at night. Everything lites up in red and it's hard to see for any far distance. I only use it during daylight hours now.
G5301
Just put on a little over 50 miles tonight. We parked at the club and rode to linn run, the trails were surprisingly nice, then on the way to walats beam run started getting bare spots so we turned around. We made a quick loop down cherry trail on the other side of 31 which was pretty decent, but i would say we are done for awhile.
polxc5
We lost a ton today with the temps over 50...Party is over for awhile and accuweather is guessing temps in the high 30's to low 40's thru Jan 11th.
