Well, I have 60 miles on it now. After smoking two of them doing stupid things twice. Long stories short. Both times the track was stuck, and could not move. Once in the yard, and once loading it on the trailer.
I bought another one today, and on the back of the Arctic Cat Drivebelt package is shows 2003 ZR900 0627-020 (OPTIONAL ZR900 0627-035)
Whats the deal?

i believe the 035 is the kevlar belt, supposed to last longer. i stayed away from it since a few people who tried it said it through the clutching off.

brunt, what kind of MC is in your avatar?

035 is supposed to last longer due to a harder compound.

the 0627-035 belt is a kevlar belt Iam almost positive. Talked to Mr Klotz and he thinks primary clutch is sticking maybe from sled sitting around for couple years. Says hes seen this problem before

The 035 will raise RPM. I also think it requires you to add shims to the secondary for correct deflection. Can't remember for sure.
MUSKOKA800
Black Magic newsletter recommended adding 1 gram of wgt to primary if switching to the -035 belt. This helps avoid belt squealling and corrects slightly increased rpm.

Ok, so do I need a new clutch now?
I have a new 020 I picked up last night, I'll put it on, if it smokes again WITHOUT locking the track up, I'll do what needs to be done to the clutch. I have to tear it apart to put the new clutch set up in it anyway right?
Oh, and I'll loosen the track another 2 turns.

035 is a direct Kevlar replacement. No need to adjust the primary.

The kevlar belt will cause an over rev..............seems to vary from sled to sled but will take increased wt in the primary to cure.

The kevlar belt will also eat your clutches if ewver does let go., Just buy a tork arm for your sled, get the clutches aligned and you should be good to go. My brother bought this belt for his ZR600 and had nothing good to say, he needed to shim the secondary, and the Kevlar is much harder and slip a ton.

what puzzles me the most it the track locking up dunno maybe i didn't read something that i should have but i kinda feel there is more to the problem then a belt smoking

While the sled was being driven up the ramp, it was going very slow, at the top of the ramp at the trailer deck there is an edge(obvious) the entire weight of the sled was on the front edge of the rails at that edge, forcing the track up between the belly pan and rails and it was stuck. And it wouldn't turn because the track was sucked up above the front edge of the rails, (does this make sense?) and when the clutch was goosed to pop it loose, it would not spin(its a sharp edge) at all. So the two times the throttle was pulled, I smelled rubber and saw rubber shavings on the left foot rest, (immeditely after the thottle goosing).

 who did the throttle goosing :frech32:
wish someone would goose my throttle

The first time me, the second time someone that didn't know my sled had issues.

Just got back from my first run. 86 miles and the ultimax xs belt is proving good. No over rev and this is the most flexable belt I have seen. Still waiting to see if it will survive the lake runs but all is good for now.

250 more miles this weekend with no belt issues. Must have been a fluke thing.

Is it possible one of the clutches were sticking and not letting it backshift? Just a thought.
