I used to ride in NY state, but being gay, I felt quite unsafe there. So I started riding in VT a few years ago and have found that I feel far safer. No offense to the NY people on the board, but Vermonters just seem either more accepting or it's just not an issue for them.
Still, I'm looking for people to ride with who I'll be safe with. I hate having this worry about being bashed in the middle of the woods. It kind of takes a lot of fun out of riding.
I'm female and my partner often rides with me on her own sled. We like the Woodford area (wide trails and well groomed) because we're out for fun--not speed at all.
Please PM me if you're interested in riding with us. Thank you.

Try Quebec ...........they are also very friendly and considerate. :div20:
Being a Black sledder, when I started riding I was also concerned about "safety" issues......since 1997 I have ridden extensively in VT, Ontario, Eastern Quebec, and Maine..........I have only run into "Issues" one time..........and that was in a restaurant in Montgomery, VT...........needless to say I instinctively keep my guard up in that area now............unfortunately...........

Yo, I sled and eat in the Montgomery area all the time. How come things like that never happen when I'm around :no_bashing: I am not above lending my opinion when someone steps out of line with theirs. It has provided me with some excitement over the years. Life is short, treat everybody with respect until they don't deserve it........

It sucked..... we were sitting at a table and a group of non-sledders (men and women) sitting two tables over had some interesting commentary when they saw me walk in..........they kept it up for a while so we switched tables to another area of the restaurant......I thought we might have to "throw down" at some point, so I was tense........put a bit of a damper on an otherwise fantastic day of riding..........our waitress was really understanding and great ( I left her a healthy tip)...........I would honestly have no problem going back to eat there.......but it does kinda sour the atmosphere..........
Other than that no problems anywhere I've ridden, ever! :div20:

It's all good because after all is said and done I'm content with life and that kinda stuff happens so infrequently now that it's easy to brush off, move on, and focus on the positive..............

Momma,
Did you used to ride a yellow MXZ with a lot of red on it. I ask because a couple years ago I saw a black guy sitting in Montgomerynext to the rails trail a couple of times with an MXZ with a ton of red.
Before anyone gets pissed I only remember that because I don't see many black guys on sleds.
Shawn
PS. Sledrider I would be VERy surprised if you had any problems. I have found most sledders in VT to be exceptionally friendly.

From what I have experanced up in the nek is that they are some of friendliest people and would help ya out no matter what color, race or sexual prefreance. They may talk behind your back but thats about it. I have met that one or two hard core Vermonter where they don't like anyone, I don't even think they like themselves. Like yomomma says if you feel uncomfortable just try and stay away from them. To me its a tough State where people have to work hard just to make it. A hard working person is ussually a decent person.
I don't know where your coming from in NY so where to ride is up to you. I don't think there would be any problems. We ride every weekend so if you don't mind trailering to Derby PM me.

I am new to the sport (bought our 1st sleds 3 days ago) but I am looking forward to having some fun this winter and meeting new people on the trails ... no matter what race, creed or religion :beerchug:
Live in the NEK for the past 8 years and decided winters were getting too long without something to do.
I welcome any one (black, red, yellow, green) to join me on the trails or at the watering hole for a "warm one". :celebrating:
Snow you bastard snow

How could anyone look at you and know you where gay?
I can understand You being uneasy as a women alone in the middle of the woods. But what diffrence dose it make if your gay?
I highly dought you would have any trouble riding in vermont. VT is safe.
Being your first post not sure if your for real....

I would agree with FreezOrBurn, how would anyone know your sexual preference unless you wanted them to know? Weird.
BTW not all is safe in Vt we still have people who don't KEEP RIGHT .
