I'm just wondering what everyone has seen for top speed on their C7. Mine will only do about 93-94 on the digital speedo (hit 95 once). It's not overrevving, so it doesn't seem to be out of gearing. It gets to 80 in a heartbeat, but really falls flat at 90. I didn't buy it to be a lake racer, but with 135-140 ponies and 1.25x136 track, there is no reason why it shouldn't be able to do 100.
Please state whether you have an Early Build or summer build (different gearing).
thanks

I don't own a Crossfire but i do own a 700 SwitchBack. I have it clutched an have had it up to 110 on the speedo so in the real world i'm saying 102 or 105 mph your machine making more HP an being lighter should be able to hit 105 or more later.

Dec 12 2005, 02:10 PM
hmmm, I would think 93-94 would be about it, unless you are in absolute perfect conditions. Your track has a lot more weight to it than the 128" on the firecat...a lot more resistance. I think all you will see without modifications will be what you see now.

Well the 1st question is.... Early build or not? the early build gearig is going to have better top end, that's why I went with mine... I had plans for it from day one anyways...
but to answer your question, I have seen 101 on the digital speedo, and there was a bit more...but it was slow in coming... I will be doing the POO belt thing here real soon, and we shall see if it is any faster...
I suspect that if I can get the secondary under contol (read not slipping) it will haul the mail real nice... I'll be happy with 105 tops, as my 04 EXT would sit there all day on LONG WOT runs... (after studding)
we shall see, only 157 miles on the EC XF so far!

Not necessarily. Too many variables to consider. Depending on clutching, ecu, suspension, etc. Assuming you are getting full shiftout on your clutches, running the same ecu, same setup the EB in theory should be faster. Seen it more than once when a sled would be quicker and pull more mph after being geared down slightly.......drivetrain efficiency.
As far as top end #s go I don't know because.......well, first problem is I can still see my lawn....second problem is I STILL DON'T HAVE MY FRIGGIN' SLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

All this " the speedo says X so that Should mean Y" is crap!!!!!!
These should run within a couple of mph of a typical diamond drive equipt F-7.

GPS is great if you have one, but the digital speedos on the F7s have proven to be very accurate; certainly enough to be a tuning aid. You could read fast if you're not getting good traction, but it isn't going to read slow, unless Cat got the calibration way off on the C7. I don't have a GPS, but I will borrow one when I get the chance (probably won't be until the weekend) to verify the speedometer.
What they "should" do and what they actually do are obviously two different things. You have a wider, longer, and deeper lug track, different gearing (on summer builds; early builds were same as F7), and different clutching. It's obviously not a lake racer, but it "should" still be able to break 100, and some of them don't (like mine).

I've seen 98 mph on my speedo and I think it had a bit more but I didn't hold it open for too long. I think I saw a post from Oh Canada that he saw 99 mph on his.
My impression is that AC's speedos are pretty accurate. I know two guys with 05F7s that were within, I believe, 2 mph of the GPS reading.

have a early build. 104 on gps. some clutching and fuel reducer only. on the track issue,, thew 136 rip saw will not kill top end like a 1-3/8 snopro track will and thier gettin 110 (supposedly), even being 15 wide. i think with some tuning an early build should see 110 or close,, on good conditions.

just picked up my black C7 snopro today and went for a ride the fastest i got it to was 102 but im pretty sure it will hit 105 but im only 145lbs i was hoping for a little faster because my brother has a 2006 REV 8X, but we raced up to 90 and i was a good 2-3 sleds in front of him..then i raced my dads 2005 machZ up to 60 because we ran out of room but i got a good few sleds out of the whole and he didn't catch me in distance we had...but all in all i like it pretty good there is some stuff i will have to do to make it work for me personaly..but it is still definitely getting faster as i brake it in..

Wrong!! You'd be surprised at the little difference in weight between the two tracks, not much at all.
Guys, I'm having a prob with these top speeds and the 140hp. What is holding these sleds back? Is it just the DD and the belt??? Even though this is an awesome trail sled, I would expect more for my money for a 140hp sled. Glad I didn't trade my 136" ZR in just yet.

Gears ratios available are:
1.62
1.67

1.79 this is the eb crossfires gearing ratio
1.85
1.91
1.98
2.04

Dec 15 2005, 07:37 PM
Oh Canada- where you get the gears from? Black Diamond? Do you know how much work is involved to change them? Has to be harder than a chaincase I would assume. I had about a 1.77 ratio in my f-7 and loved it. I'm guessing with the same motor, longer/wider/deeper track in order to get similiar set up, you would probably need around a 1.91 or 1.85 set up. What do you think?

My pond is finally frozen here in southern maine and i saw 105 on my eb crossfire. I have 144 1.325" gold diggers. The pond is only like a half mile long or so, so i had to let off. I'm guessing i would have gotten 108-110 out of it if i was on a lake.
Me and my friend drag raced today, hes got a 2000 Arctic Cat Thunder Cat 1000. I got him off takeoff, but when i hit 80 he pulled me hard. I was next to him doing 105 and he just takes off. That thing must do like 120. He was gone!

I live in a state with 15,000 lakes. When it's time to cross one of them, it's a time honored tradition to open 'er up and see who is fastest. It's obviously not my top priority when I buy a sled (or I wouldn't have bought a Crossfire), but it's still fun to do.
We also have a lot of high speed trails in WI/MI, like old abandoned railgrades, where you can see straight ahead for miles. It gets pretty boring if you just putt along on one of those (no speed limits here unless otherwise marked).
