I'm currently running a 210/345 primary spring and can only pull about 80. It pulls great but I wanna get my top speed up. Any suggestions?

sounds like you have issues othe than just a spring, if it will only go 80......... dunno.gif

Like what? I can outrun 500ss and 600 HO's for about 500 ft. Pulls really hard till around 80. Then everything seems to catch up. Any suggestions?

How many miles do you have on your sled? Are you running the stock clutching?
My old 600 (all stock w/96 studs) used to run about 105-107 on the"dream-ometer" but 100mph was a legit speed. So I think 80mph is a little off for a 600.

Your sled should run with a 500ss pretty well, the lack of (or I should say"less") traction of the REV would/or could give a zx chassis the advantage of a hole shot, but speed wise they should be about the same,w/ any other advantage going to the SS (they run well and are very peppy)... the H.O. 600 should be a bit faster on top anyway.

Are you running the stock gearing? what is your top operating RPM on your tach? (when you hold it wide open ,what does it tach out at?)

I would start with making sure your carbs are clean and adjusted properly, your clutches clean and aligned properly, belt deflection etc. Check to see what gears you have...if your sled has alot of miles on it,I'd look into getting new clutch springs,(they geat weak and take a "set" after a while.

It sounds like maybe someone has geared it down ..... dunno.gif

It has 3500 miles on it and I just replaced the rings on it. It was a horrible sled last year and you could just tell something was wrong. The rings made all the difference in the world. It now is very peppy. I put a goodwin clutch kit in it, mbrp race can, and geared it down one on top from stock settings and after my first post. Jetted it down to 370's main's. Took her on the back seasonal road and pulled 90 before running out of room. Either the sled was running to rich or the harder pack made a difference. It went to 90 on the speedo very quickly, never slowed down. So I'm hoping to see 90 this weekend when I go back to the drag strip for races again. I have a 1 inch track with 144 studs. Just ordered vforce 3 reeds because 1. my boots are dry rotted and 2. my reeds arent touching the cage. Can easily see daylight between them. Other than that contemplating on throwing a dynoport pipe, rkt head, or trail porting it. The only other thing I can think of is that my rave valves are pretty beat up and the edge has some gouges. Any thoughts?

well it sounds like your on the right track,I would lose the can though,I put a can on my 700 (reeds, clutching etc.) and I lost power and torque,I put the stock muffler on and gained almost 5mph on top,and it was quicker outta the hole.
All the stuff you mentioned should work fine but your rave valves dont come in contact with any moving parts ,so there should be no damage to them (unless you grenaded your motor at one point) but they can be gummed/carboned up and neet to be cleaned....screw the red caps in all the way also.
I guess I was under the impression that all you could get was 80mph top end speed, not just in a certain distance(drag racing).
Yes hard pack snow does make a huge difference,my 800 will only go 90 across a lake if there is a foot of fresh snow.....

Make sure your tach is running about 8000rpm when WOT ,if its not you need to make some clutching adjustments.
Also the 144 studs will take away quite a bit of top speed and some acceleration (about an extra 40lbs of rotating mass)

So I'd say your probably pretty close to where it should be running.....because if you're clutched and geared for drag racing, you'll be quick outta the hole, but will have a lack-luster top end....you must remember, the 99 600 is only about 108h.p.

My tach shows 7900 with clickers on 5. Last season my buddies were all saying the same thing about the can and how they'd bet me money i was losing topend and snap. I think it was more snappy and I tested the can and the stock back to back and was actually 5 mph faster with the aftermarket can. This is while my sled was still not running even average performance so I'm going to try it again this year, hopefully this weekend. I'll let ya know what happens. I still think my compression is a little low, even if the gauge is off. My buddy's 500ss shows 125/125 while my sled shows 110/113 with new rings. I'm considering redoing them again but all my buddies say it doesn't matter. It was at 98/100 on the gauge last season when I changed them and it made the biggest difference in the world. Went from absolutely no snap to making you hold on to it tight. Still deciding.

Your compression does sound a little low, most say if both cylinders are within 10% of each other they are ok,but I dont think they should be below 120psi....try a couple different gauges if you have acess to any, just to compare readings.
paul23
Well the new rings must of settled in a bit more. Checked it last night and it reads 120/123 Cold.
