Greetings,
Im coming off a 2000 XC700 and one of the sleds Im considering is a 04 Switchback 700. I've been poking around the web and can't seem to find any reviews or write ups on it. I would appreaciate any info, good or bad, you could provide.
Thanks :beerchug:

I dont have any reviews but its my first choice for replacing my 04 XC 700.
I love the Switchbacks, wish I would have done it in the first place.
Im not completly in love with the IQ yet and I like the looks of the 04.
Not to metion saving some coin....

If I do go for a new one it would be the 600 HO......If I went IQ !

I owned that sled last year. It held it's own with an RX-1 Mountain. Plenty of power. Started and ran well, and is a very good powder sled. If I had a complaint with it, was that it would not back off a trailer well because of the uncoupled suspension. This ment that you had to stop as the rearend got off the trailer and manually lift on the sled to get the rear up high enough to keep from running over the snowflap. It got about 10mpg which is average for those sleds. But otherwise they had the bugs out of it and it ran well. I had electric start and the push button reverse worked very well.

Right about now, I wish I had not sold it cause the FST switcher it is being replaced with, is recalled and I have no powder sled to replace it with while the FST gets the work done.

You will like this sled.

Well I don't have any seat time yet to comment as I bought a new non current 03 700 Switchback this fall for a smokin deal.
I am coming off several XC7's and lastly a PROX7.
I briefly test rode one last year and liked it.
I did a lot of research, talked with plenty of owners last year as well as some who had long tracked their XC's before buying a switchback.

All were very happy with the sled.
The ones that had long tracked an XC prior said the switchback worked and handled better.

I trail ride mostly so I swapped the stock sidehiller skis for PROX skis and single 8in carbides right from the crate as the only negative issue I heard of was some pushing in the corners on packed trails.

Between the POS Team clutch and my dislike for the fusion chassis this edge based switchback was a no brainer for me.

I will post when I get riding.....hopin soon!!

I have a 04 700 SB that I decided to keep as a second sled rather than sell it. It was the last year of that model. I have gotten a new sled every year since 1996 and last year I skipped and kept the 700. Best sled I have owned. I ride Wyoming every year and it has performed very well. Factory setup is spot on. Does very well in powder and is an excellent ride for the trails in MN and WI. I does tend to push in the cormers, however I put on SLP Trikeel II's and the difference is like night an day. I am sure that powder pro's would do just as well.

The long track will add a dimension of stability on the trail that will make you wonder why you did get it sooner. I think it is one of the best sleds Polaris has made. It is also going to be one of the last sleds that you can get where it is relatively easy to work on yet. I look at my 900SB and am not looking forward to re-gearing for Wyoming this year.

Have you studded your track terez?I bought a RMK 05 600 ( long story but suffice to say don't bid on EBay even if you think you won't win) anyhow I am trying to set it up like a switchback.Added a 1.25 switchback track 114 studs. Was wondering if you have any suspension tips.

I read somewhere to shorten limiter straps but in top hole much of the track doesn't contact the floor.I've since moved them back to middle hole. I also added the Walker shocks ( Polaris upgrade)

I am looking for something that will handle well on open country and trails.

I own a 04 SB 700, before that it was a 700 XCSP. I love the Switchback. Once you own one you'll never go back to short track. It is awsome, its quick it redes nice. on or off trail and you never have more fun then when you get some fresh powder.
Go for it!!! Good Luck!

Period best sled I have ridden. Go any where, do anything. Best trait it likes to climb high .

Many of seen my posts here and know I am an avid racer with my 04 XC 700 Improver.
My best friend rides a very well tuned/set up 03 SKS 700, it is an awesome sled.
Great ride/hook-up Pulls like a freight train with the set up we run, and will run with F7s on a snow drag...before bashers come in here and start...don't bother.

My next sled will be a 144 without a doubt, and BTW he runs this on groomed trails with an 1 1/4 and it handles great.

Put powder down before the groomer gets out, and he waves bye bye to me, 121'' 144 studs...just spinnin and makin noise.
You won't regret....

Hey Man
I am calling Dr.Polaris tomorrow I will have the goods for you and will pm you.
PM me your email adress again.
You will be rocking!
P.S Good move on the skis, that is his only complaint at times, and he is doing the same, unless you run a bunch of front preload, but then you are giving and taking as well

Go for it. You'll really love it. You'll be praying for deep snow all the time.
The only thing I did was put Powder Pros on it. You'd never know it was the same sled.
Anyone that's tried it wished they had the 144 . Good Luck.

I rode an 04 700 switchback demo. ALMOST chose it over the F-7 EFI. In the end the F-7 was more sled (for the ditch) for a few hundo less..I really liked the Polaris though. Don't worry, it's worth owning!

I think it will make a sweet sled. Will take some tweaking but the switchback and RMK are the same chassis. So switching over shouldn't be too bad. I got a REALLY great price so I can toss a couple bucks at it and still come out ahead.

Besides nothing like wrenching it to learn it.

FYI - I'm suffering from SHOULD'VE.

Should've kept my 04 700 SB - re-clutched, cut the pipe, put regular Polaris skis on. Only had 1 problem with it - I COULDN'T KEEP MY SON OFF IT !!!!! Spent more time on his sled.

You would not go wrong with this sled :div20: - good for the snow, good for the trail, good for the once in a while "let's see what she'll do" - when I was able to get my son off it.
