I have my grandfather's 74 Harley Davidson 440. Gotta get some electronics for thata one, only sparks on one side. Sled has electric start too. Had my grandmother's 76 Skidoo Everest, but sold it to my cousin for his girls to ride around the yard. My dad's Sno-Jet SST 340 is setting out, I could go get that one too. It needs more help than any of them now.

The sled I first rode on is this 69 Scorpion. Appears to be kind of a morphidite.

It has a 68 engine, 69 chassis, and was registered as a 70. Note the silver hood, this is all original.

My dad purchased it new in 69 from a gentleman who had won it in a contest in Crosby MN (where Scopion was made).

This sled is currently under a full tilt boogie restoration. New handlebars, front/rear bumers, NOS skis, track, clutch, bogies, cables etc. I hope to have it done for the Scorpion show in Crosby.

This is a really nice original sled that I picked up last summer. I have not tried to start it since I was unable to get the motor to spin over at first. I did free the motor up, which did not take much, but it needs a good checking over, and a fuel tank.

Overall this sled is probably a 8 out of 10. It looks like about a two year old sled. I got it from the guy that bought it brand new, and I don't think he ever rode it much and it was always kept inside.

I will start this one after the 69 Scorpion is done.

Here is a 74 Scorpion Super Stinger 440 that I picked up last summer also. Pretty complete sled, needing a complete go through.

Here's a Kat Kutter that I purchased last summer also. Last summer was very busy!

Now I just need a matching Arctic Cat to pull it with trau14.gif

And of course I NEED to add a Free Air to the collection :beerchug:

Also still have a 75 Mercury 440 SR that I had in the late 70's. I may revive her some day.

vintage sled nut
There are those that say I have too many old sleds. dunno.gif I have a 24X40 polebarn with a loft that is almost too full to walk through. Taking the wrong sled out can result in a few hours of shuffling machines around. Good exercise, though! :div20:

My sleds.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skiroule

-1969 S370 with Sachs single. Runs good and in VG restored condition.

-1972 RTX factory racer with Sachs 440 RX free-air twin. Runs good and restored.

-1972 RTX factory racer that is crashed with no engine. Future home for my Sachs 650 RX free-air triple. Yes, the factory offered this as a kit. By the way, does anybody have a set of these pipes laying around? :lol2:

-1973 RTX 300 with Sachs single. runs in decent shape.

-1973 RTX 447 with Sachs fan twin. Probably parts source.

-1976 Ultra 447 w/ Kohler 440 AS fan (The very same engine as Rupp Nitro II and Merc Trail Twister, but single Walbo WF carb. Totally restored and rebuilt with a few bugs to kill.

-1976 Laser custom mod. Kohler liquid engine and sno-twister pipes that run down either side of the engine. Very fast, but needs cosmetic work.

-1979 Sprint made in Crystal,MI. Aluminum chasis and suspension. Liquid cooled Kohler LC (not Merc RLC) and twin pipes. One of a dozen or so made. I bought from sled's builder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speedway

-1972 440 with Kohler free-air twin, unrestored in VG condition. Have to mess with it , as it sat in a barn for decades.

-1972 650 factory mod racer with triple Kohler and outside pipes. Only 75 miles. Runs, but needs track work.

-1974 Blue Max 295 Kohler free-air twin. Good condition but seized. Parts to fix.

-1974 Blue Max 440 Kohler f/a with 6(!) origional miles. :div20: Bought it un-assembled at a Cat dealer in 1996. Still like new.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Others

-1973 Brut LC29 with liquid Brooten engine layed on it's nose. This company was the first to offer consumer liquid cooling in 1972. Runs is decent unrestored shape.

-1974 Alouette Super Brute 440 with Sachs fan-cooled twin. Was in good unrestored condition, but it was rolled a few times at a show :banghead:

-1976 Merc Sno-Twister 440. Only needs minor cosmetics completed. Runs...no, flat hauls!

-1977 Boa-ski SS with Kohler AS fan twin, exactly like Trail-Twisters used, and had K-H hydraulic brake.

-1981 Scorpion Sidewinder 440 with Suzuki liquid. This was a custom-for Scorpion Arctic Cat El Tigre 6000, built 500 in 1981 only.

-1988 Arctic Cat Wildcat Formula III race sled. Rare and scary fast with modified 650 twin pulling 140+ horse@ 10,000 rpms. Lots of light weight parts from hood to suspension. Almost no parts from stock Wildcats. Hang on!

I will spare you the parts and engine stash. Also the many sleds I no longer have.

If you have read this far, you know where my forum name came from. :frech32:

I will post some pictures one day soon.

I've got the following vintage sleds right now:

1975 Scorpion Whip 400 - 450 original miles. Looks and runs in showroom condition. Best original 1975 sled in a couple of vintage shows.
1978 Polaris TXL 340 - 2500 mi. Mint original condition, I'm going through the engine and rear suspension. Chassis and cosmetics are mint original. I'll never figure out how the original owner got that many miles on it and kept it looking like it does.
1979 Polaris TX 440 - 850 original miles. Hasn't been run for years and I'm going through it from skis to rear bumper. Excellent original.

Near vintage sleds, they will be 20 years old next winter. I picked them up earlier this month:
1986 Polaris Sprint 340 ES - 475 original miles, I'm letting the kids use it. It is low miles but has surface rust in many areas from bad storage. Huge mouse nest in airbox - was completely full. I'll work on a paint job next summer. Mechanically it is mint and after some clean-up and new gas lines it runs like new.
1986 Polaris Indy Trail - 1038 original miles. The mate to the Sprint. Needs some parts with surface rust painted. Fortunately most of the sled is either aluminum or plastic. A perfect restoration project. By the time I'm done it will be vintage.:smilielol:

Other project sled - not vintage yet:
1991 Polaris Indy 400. - 6000++? miles. Engine was stuck but is now somehow free and running (but for how long?). Needs all kinds of rebuilding but still looks good. The price was right and it's straight and clean. This will also be a summer project. One of my favorite sleds so worth fixing. Parts are easy to find. I'm thinking I may either restore it to original or do a 'Pimp my ride' and go crazy with it. I've got an idea to paint it the same midnight blue as the TX's, update the front end with a wide kit, put gas shocks on it. Nothing too expensive but it is a decent unmolested original sled to start with.
I'll try to post some pictures.

i have a 1978 yamaha enticer 440 that is in mint condition and has 400 miles on it. i bought it from a lady in town. it was her husbands who had passed away many years ago so it sat in their barn.
strokerswild
Have the '72 Chaparral Firebird 340 listed in my profile. My Dad bought it about 8 years ago at a garage sale for $100. The only things wrong with it are a couple of stress cracks in the hood and a spot on a rear corner of the seat where some dog thought he'd enjoy eating a 2" diameter spot of it.

It starts and runs like a top and is a blast to ride, topping out at about 45 MPH (followed by my XC). It gets regular use when up north to my folks' lake place, where the sleds are kept. If only the new sleds were as lightweight, although the old bogie wheel suspension wouldn't be up to the task!
