Just wanted to see how many of you guy's have old sleds. I have a 1972 Sears Sportster with a 335 twin carb Polaris engine. It was built by Polaris for Sears. Man have sleds come along ways in the last 30 years!!! yay2.gif
mnarcticcat
1977 Arctic Cat Lynx 2000-T/292cc Twin!

It was my first sled. I will never sell it! I have never had a single problem with the sled other than changing the track on it. I have plans of restoring it someday..... buttrock.gif
trail twister
I Have a 1971 MERC. Rocket, 339 Canadian Curtis Wright engine single carb. 1974 MERC Sno Twister with a 339 Koler free air engine with twin carbs. 1981 Polaris TXL Indy with a 339 Fugi liquid coold twin carb engine. It has 19,000 plus miles on it now. Would be more but I didn't ride any thing for over ten years do to the wifes health.
I would still be riding it as my main sled if I hadn't decided that oil injection is what takes the hassle out of all day trail riding.

I've got a 75 Mercury Sno-Twister 440, 76 340 Sno-Twister, enough parts to build 2-3 75-76 Trail-Twisters, 1973 Ski-Doo Elite, 1977 Ski-Doo 340RV and enough parts to build 2-3 more, 79 Ski-Doo Blizzard 7500Plus, 1980 Arctic Cat Trail Cat. Most of these are "works in progress". grin.png
CatMan2
4- 44TT Raider twin tracks. Nothing else like them!!!!!! i_need_snow.gif
X-COUNTRY CAT
80 el tigre 6000, my first sled and now my kids drive it :div20: as I get a new one every few years, I'll never sell it cause I still love going for rips on it every so often!
Dave
I have a 1971 Alovette 440. I got her last year from a barn. I did a roof job for the owner and she told me just take it!!! It was her fathers sled that past away many years ago. When I got the sled to my house I found she had 200 miles on it with a broken Axel. She even had the original cover, no holes or faded! Not even a rip in the seat! So I took apart the carbs changed the gas and she started right up! She runs beautiful all the tacks work all the lights work. Just can't find a Axel Assembly So I made a little Arctic cat jimmy rig. Seems to work fine untill I can find some original parts. I took her out a few times last year put on 22 MILES :div20:

Got the 69 Merc, passed on my brothers 72 Panther, and instead picked up a 76 Pantera a few weeks ago which I have stripped down now. I would like to post pics but I do a lousy job at it, I have a good Nikon digital that takes these 1+ meg pictures, but when I try and shrink them down they look lame, I will have to ask Rob how to upload decent pics or if anyone else knows how let me know.

My new Kitty. Picked her up today. 74 Cheetah 340 in fantastic condition. I started her up and drove her on the trailer. Other than a cracked windshield this sled is in fantastic shape. Not a mark on the seat.
Funny thing is it has the lunch box on the back like my soon to arrive Sabercat.

Oh, by the way $400.00 Canadian and she was mine.

I've got a '65 Ski-Doo Chalet that I restored last year and a '72 399 Oly. Did a few trail rides on the Oly last season including a 75 miler from Bethel, ME around Rumford. As long as the trails were good the ride was great. Rough stuff, however, made for a miserable day wink.gif

Too cool Couch!

Makes you wonder how the sport survived after riding that many miles eh? and there were no such thing as groomed trails back then, I remember riding bush trails in the 70's with my dad, just pick a path in the woods and go.

Yep, thats the way we used to ride as kids up in VT as well. Just go through the woods. Of course, half you're "ride time" was spent digging the machine out after you got it stuck. Those old Bomb'ers were light though, which was a very good thing.

old sleds love em hate pulling the rope.. I have a bunch, My boy he rideds a 1974 SS 294 Elan I figure if he can stay on that he can stay on anything. My little girl is riding a 1971 polarus playmate 175cc, myself I ride a 1991 formula 500 guess its going to be vintage soon. lately its been raining cats here. I have just picked up 7 panthers of them all indoor stored some running some not, bodies and tunnels in great shape, quite an assortment of motors too. 292 kawi, 303 sachs, 340 hirth, 399 kawi, I guess all I need is the 440 to fill out the panther line, have a couple of snow cruisers too (snowpigs), cool reverse though, will be updating motors this summer to try to make them a little less piggish....email me if you have an interest in old sleds or to share tech or info. farnorth@lycos.com

I have a 76 Merc Trial twister in my storage shed. It's suprising how many people can't beleve it's a 440 on the lake. frech11.gif

OMC finally got it right! Then they quit the sled business. I hated to see them go.

My old iron includes a 72 250 ElTigre and a 71 335 Oly. The Cat is fine except the for the dash and the fact that it loses spark when warm. I think its the CDI box but just try to find one. The Oly is fine but who really cares.

I have a 1971 Panther almost fully restored and a 1965 Snow Ghia. Both sleds run but the snow ghia needs a track. ANTF7.....I have a 73 Cheetah parts sled if that is any help for your panther. dance_2.gif

I picked up a 66 Colt this last summer, but the guy I bought it from said that if I wanted that one (stored in a shed), I had to take all his snowmobile parts laying around. That left me with a 72 TX500 tunnel, 2-71 tunnels with 440cc Polaris engines (frozen), a 69 Mustang (no motor but good hood), misc. engines, skis, etc. I was going to sell all except the 66 at Waconia but, when I got home, traded it all for some other parts.

The 66 was to be added to the others I have, all Polaris': 2-69 Chargers (one excellent shape), 2-69 Mustangs (one runs real good, minor body work needed), 1-69 Colt (first sled, mom bought for dad from local priest in 71), 1-71 Mustang (great shape for the $5 it cost me, no go yet). Still looking for that 69 Voyager with the 700cc, big, big sled!

MELLGY mentioned the Waconia MN Vintage show, billed as the worlds largest Vintage show. Great place to find parts, advice, decals, you name it, if it is from an old sled, it is there, every make imaginable! Main swap meet is January 31, big show is February 1 (Superbowl Sunday) with Yamaha as the featured sled. Races and trail ride around the lake on Sat. too. All located on HY 5, at the Lakeside Ballroom. I'm not associated with it, just like going.

Another great show is in Pequot Lakes MN Jan. 23 & 24. Not as big as Waconia, which has it's advantages. Very friendly folks there and well run event.

That was a lot of writing! By the way, WHERE IS THE SNOW!

I've had a lot of them over the years, but here is what I have now and plan on keeping for a very long time.

70 Blizzard 440 (first year for the blizzards)
73 Blizzard 298 (last year for the F/A in a blizzard)
73 TNT 400 F/A (had a 74 400 F/A as a kid, but liked the 73 a little more)
75 RV 245 (serial number 1, first sled off the line)
75 RV 245 mod (gotta have something to race)
77 Blizzard 440 Super Stocker (1st year for a liquid blizzard and last year of
a leaf spring front end)
77 Moto-Ski 440 Super Sonic (same as the 77 Blizzard 440 SS, but this one is a
Michigan version, has headlight and taillight)

Here's a picture of my 70 Blizzard 440 before I started restoring it. The restoration was basicly adding the correct seat, pan and rear suspension. Did take it completely down and replaced bearings, slides and many other wear items. Oh and get rid of the ski spreaders.
