What is the best set up for studding a ZR 900 EFI? What works pattern and length wise? Do you just do the middle or the whole thing? What length are you using on the standard 1" non-sno pro track? Anyone using Mega Bites? Any sources for good prices on studs, backers, nuts, and drill?

i am putting 144 woodys 1.075 gold digger trail studs down the middle on my 04 zr900. also putting eight inches of carbide on the skis.
i am not sure of the stud patern yet.
this is going to cost me $310.00 US including the backing plate.
this is for a one inch lug.

I used the megabytes and they worked great when new.I like the golddiggers better.I only installed 96 in a V pattern down the middle for safety.

i use 144 down the middle, i know the charts from woodies and such call for more but i didnt want the extra rotating mass.

For those of you with 144 down the middle, how does it hook up? I seem to spin a lot with out them and would like to be able to hook it up. Anyone know what is the longest stud you can run in a 1" track without breaking or bending them?

mine hooks up great, but i'm running a 1.25 ripsaw track so that has a lot to do with it.

What pattern do you use for 144 down the center? I have done 144 all the way across before, but never just in the center belt.

I have 168 Woody's on mine. Hooks up well. Still spins a little bit at start up but I would expect that with any sled over 150hp.

I have 192 Woody's in my track in a "V" pattern across the whole width and it handles great for cornering and straight line running.

What length studs are you guys using in the 1" tracks?

192 WOODY GOLDDIGGERS IN A V PATTERN. HOLD ON...

You will het many responses.. If you want them to last a while get the Gold diggers.. I went with the 1.175 as opposed to the 1.075 for the bit of extra penetration.. Also did the single and double pattern... may want to look into angled backers as well.. Get the Woody's Universal template it does 96 - 192 and everything in between for 121 tracks.. I personally like the woody's pattern over V patterns looks much more aggressive!

Thanks for the replies. I went with 144 Gold Diggers down the middle. I did a staggered 1-2 pattern with a modified V starting wide, then mid-way, then center.

I made sure to stagger studs to get as many scratch lines as I could. It should hook up better now. Just need some snow to try it. Get busy on those snow dances gentlemen!! :fluffy:

Hey guys, i'm new here. Been lurking for a couple weeks.

I bought an 03 ZR9 about a month ago. It has 240 mega-bites in it. Hooks up great but pushes in the turns (thats to be expected). It turns pretty good on a packed trail but in powder it pushes pretty hard. Right now it has stock skis with 8" of carbide. I need to get some C&A ultra-pro XL's with the biggest stromberg's i can get in the near future to make it turn.

Adjust your limiter straps and then play with the spring pressure on the skis. I put a "136x15x1 with 172 1.325 megabites on mine it hooks great and doesnt push in the corners or deep snow. Dave

AGREED.............stock skis are big time under rated, it's more in your set up than the skis themselves. Keep in mind though, studs in the outter belts contribute to push in the corners big time, if it still bothers you consider taking the outter ones out.
79rallysport
Should I tighten or loosen the straps? When you say, "adjust the spring pressure on the ski's" do you mean the front suspensions springs?

If you use 1.35 do you need tunnel protectors, or is this stud pushing the limit, would 1.25 be a safer stud for the 900 without haveing to put protectors in. :beerchug:

Trust me my cousin had an ZR 900 EFI and 144 studs int going to shit. YOu need at least 196 studs to 244. you be sorry that you did put those 144 studs on it.
kawicat
168 1.175" saber (accord) warthogs. I would not even try any less.
nastcat
180 1.4 extreme's on a 136 Ripsaw will get you about the same amount of studs to the trail as 192 in a short track but it spreads them out a little more for better penetration. this combination hooks HARD !!!! :lol2:
M3CHUCKDOG
READY WITH THE 1.325 STUD YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR TRACK IT SEMI TIGHT. I HAVE 192 AND THEY NEVER HIT.

196 Rotines <think thats how it's spelled > they guarentee then for life against breaking 1.375 hooks up great and they clear no problems there in a V pattern w/ staggered studs off the edge of the track be carefull how you stud not properly done if you run the sled on a stand you will see the track is unbalanced

dad just put that in...havnt got any real snow 2 test it out...but he is thinking about goin 192...with the studs on the outside
M3CHUCKDOG
244 STUDS ON A 900 ARE WAY TO MANY. IF YOU GUYS ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD STUD TEMPLATE GO TO RICH MOTORSPORTS. I HAVE 144 DOWN THE MIDDLE WITH A GREAT V PATTERN, AND ALSO ON THE OUTSIDE EDGES OF THE TRACK IS ALSO A SLIGHT V PATTERN.. IF ALL YOUR 900'S ARE STOCK 192 IS FINE I HAVE MANY MODS DONE TO MY 900 AND IT STILL GETS GOOD PENATRATION OUT OF THE HOLE. HOPE THIS HELPS...
