Lets see you guys USE this site for what Rob intended; The betterment of sledding!
I have a hunch sled clubs nation wide just DON'T talk enough, or utilize free resources like HCS...I know that HCS was KEY in making my local club get revitalized. It continues to do so! I have had guys from Mass/conn./R.I., etc drive all the way to mid NH to help do trail work...because we asked for it here on HCS...so USE this forum, and this thread! If you can't post a link, post the addy, and we'll post a link for you! :beerchug:

Click on the links below in my signature.

Straits Club has a new web site/message board this year. The club VP put up a really nice trail map of their system in a PDF file.

They sold their CAT groomer and are getting another John Deere grooming tractor to match the new one they purchased last season! :div20:

Straits Area has really stepped it up that last couple years and are doing an AWESOME JOB!!!! :div20:

Actually, all the EUP clubs have really improved that last few years. Even Kinross with their extremely limited budget.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS!

The club hasn't sent out a newsletter since October. You should get the next newsletter when it comes out. You can call Kim Mahar (Club Trustee) at (906) 569-0047 to verify your club membership.

In previous years the club would send a membership card, but they stopped doing that last year or the year before.

Good post. Clubbing is what's gonna save this sport. It's great to ride with the buds but it's the association with MSA and local clubs that give us the clout to keep the system going. Bless the folks in the snowbelt who make it possible for us trolls to enjoy our sport. They live, work and fight for theirs and our ability to continue to play there. Problem is, they are the minority. Top four counites in the state for snowmobile registrations are Oakland, Macomb, Wayne and Genesee with about 100,000 between them, without an inch of trail to maintain. Saw an article in one of the mags recently that suggested making it cool to join a club and making it sort of a fashion statement to join multiple clubs. smiley-faces7.gif Seems like a good idea for this site as many of the regulars here don't appear to be clubbers. Yes, it requires some degree of responsibility but it ain't as boring as it sounds if you give it a chance. Start clubbing! :frech32:

Welcome to HCS...and EXCELLANT POST! Thank you :div20:

290,000 registered sleds in Michigan...how many MSA members? Just over 20,000. Subtract about 50,000 sleds for smashed, broken down or sold off to out of staters, and that's about 220,000 FREELOADERS!

WOW, if we could only get the clubs coordinated....

My friends and I stopped in at the Lewiston Fun Ones on New Years Eve day and inquired about joining. Randy ( Vice Pres.), was an excellent host and gave us the nickel tour of the place and told us all the things the club does. He even invited us and our families back for the New Years party. Everyone had a great time and one of my buddies won the 50/50 raffle. If you ride /stay in the Lewiston area this club is worth joining. And yes, I will be joining.

I started a small group Called the SNODAWGZ. We will be in Trout Lake this weekend and will join the Chippewa Snochasers!!!

Take care of the clubs where you ride!!!!!!

I happen to be an MSA and a club member. But, how can someone who pays their trail permit fees and registration be a freeloader?

I agree that MSA does work for us in Lansing. I just don't think we can call someone who's not a member a 'freeloader'

Maybe freeloader was harsh, there was a lot going on in our state at the time of my post. But I can only compare it to not voting and then complaining about who is running your city/state/country.

Sure, what we want doesn't seem to matter to politicians anymore. They do what they what :banghead:

But if a trail gets closed and someone doesn't know why, they bitch. If they were at least members of a state organization they would be somewhat informed, and know what they are bitchin' about.

I still don't think registering your sled and buying a trail permit is enough though. That is my opinion, has been for the last 15 years, and I am sticking to it!

I agree - more involvement is needed. Unfortunately, not all people are informed of the issues the sport faces. These are usually the people that not only cause the problems, but also don't get involved.

Is it time Michigan requires a club membership to register sleds?

I know of other sports that require such membership. APBA comes to mind.

Agreed...MSA and Chippewa Snow Chasers for me and my group. I'm also checking into the East Jordan snowmobilers club now too (close to our place in Charleviox).

I belong to the St. Helen Snowpackers, and we could really use some help. These are the people that maintain the trails in the St. Helen area, and we could really use some new members. We also need more younger people to assure the future of our sport!

MTC

ps.
The state make collect the trail fees, but the state doesn't maintain the trails.

Been sitting on the club participation sidelines too long and am jumping in head first. Didn’t know much about web site building, and still don’t, but I gave it a go and now there is website for the Gobles Driftbusters Snowmobile Club in Southwest Michigan. The club maintains approximately 60 miles of trails including the well known and traveled Kal-Haven trails running from Kalamazoo to South Haven. Please check out the website at www.goblesdriftbusters.org and send me your suggestions or comments.

Special Note: our club is facing one of the most critical years of its existence. Pending legal action later this year and next could have a significant impact on its future. Perhaps many of you can relate to the situation where proving your innocence can cost you everything, perhaps even ruin you financially. The club needs your support. If you are an existing member and have let your membership lapse or would like to become a member please go to the club website, fill out the membership form, and send it in. We can also always use more active members to help with trail maintenance or many other club activities.

schild27.gif Just a short note to let you know that Alpena Snowdrifters the local club out of Alpena has finally got approval for a connector trail between trail number 4 to Hillman and trail 992 to Posen. After 4 years of DNR denial we got several others involved including the Governors office to get this on the ground. Our club is a very active club year around and groom over 90 miles of some of the most unique trails in the state. On Trail 4 we have an elk herd right along the trail and on trail 992 we have a sinkhole with waterfall and bridge. Bring your camera as they both make great pictures. For trail information visit our website at www.alpenasnowdrifters.org. If you are not a memebr of MSA and a local club please join as without these clubs we would not have any trails to ride.
