In a 2003 700 ProX. I was told that this was using as much chain as possible with 63 gear teeth. It was a pain to get it on, but the chain is pretty tight without the tensioner. It is a brand new chain, so maybe it will stretch out? Is it ok that it is so tight right now

If you have the 7.92" center to center chain case, Poo does not recomend that combo of gearing. Acceptable combos for that ratio are:

6.625" c to c w/ 68p chain

7.05" c to c w/ 70p

7.658" c to c w/ 74p.

As far as what you have now, it will probably work, but be louder and wear out faster.

Should be ok, Mike. The chain will stretch. Nice part about a tight chain is no braking/decel squeal. I'm currently running 21/42 gears on my 440fan. No chain tensioner required.

fwiw - i'm running 21-40 (1.90 ratio) on my 700, 22-41 is 1.87... still hits 110+ on the speedo too... grin.png

Thanks for all the info guys. I like the idea of not having to use the tensioner, but was just concerned that currently the cahin is so tight that I actually had to tap the gears on with a hammer to get them on (this was after about an hour of lining up, pulling and yelling a few kind words). Hopefully no damage will occur with the chain so tight. I have heard that they stretch out, but was just unsure of how much.

you'll be fine showmodel... you're in my neighborhood, get out in a field and do some really hard holeshots to loosen it up before you take a trip up nort... i've been using the field next to KC's Cabin out at 173 and Wilmot Rd.... right at the trail head there...
