These plugs came out of my 440 fan motor after about 90-100 miles. Medium to hard ditch riding . I was in 15* weather. I have the carb set by the Poo high perf book for my altitude, and for 10-30* temps. Gas was 87 octane no ethanol (all I could find) switch set for cheap fuel.

I am thinking that if it gets ANY colder, then I am going to go to 320-330 mains. They are actually a little lighter than the pics show. So what do you think?

the ground electrode looks coffee colored well after the bend if it is its to lean. you should see some soot in the 90* bend area IMHO. the insulator should have more color also.

those look pretty good. just need more time for the insulator to color up. you should be tuning by piston wash instead of plug color though.

They look fine, especially if they are new plugs. Go up on the mains if the temps drop, as per the jet chart. As said, you should go by piston wash, as well as checking color at the desired throttle position, under load, hold it steady there for 1/8 mile or so, then hit the kill switch to get a proper reading.

Sorry for not knowing, but how do you check piston wash?

If you don't have mods I would follow Poalaris's specs. If yes, I would richen then up to see how they look. No color where the insulator nose meets the metal jacket means to lean. Even with new plugs you should have some color there. Need to do full throttle run for six seconds , hit the kill switch, bring it to a halt, & then check the plugs. Look at wash, ground strap, & where insulator meets metal jacket.

A hundred miles is not enough to read them? Thats a few hours worth of riding.

I would check the wash, but it is kind of a pain in the butt. I cant see more than about 1 "- 1 1/2" of the top of the piston because of the cooling fins and the shrouding.

ya 100mile should be ok, but I've been fooled before. Bendalights are necessary to check wash especially on the big twins. Discolouration on the threads and a change in colour at bend in ground electrode is what you need to see if plugs have enough time on them. The best way (easiest to evaluate) is to run mineral injector oil and measure wash, then run synthetic for riding. It remember it took me a bit to figure out reading was affected by oil types / brand.

Thanks for your input... I thought they were alright, just wanted a couple other opinions. I think I will stick with Poo's jetting chart.

I have another question... I am curious if Tempa Flows are really as good as they say. They just seem too simple to be so effective. I am considering getting one, but I am not sure if they are worth the $$$$. Not that jetting my sled is a big deal, but the prospect of always being set up perfect does apeal to me.

Where do yo guys get your bend a lights and is looking through the spark plug whole the only and quickest way to check wash?

Got a tempa flow on my sled, save approximately $2 or $3 dollars at every fill up, constantly burpin the throttle when i ride. And it always runs spot on no matter what temperature! :div20:

Anybody else have any luck with the tempa flows? Good, bad or indifferent?
