Hey guys! I have never been to the Adirondack Mountain area and would like to go around the begining or middle of January...what would be the best area to goto...

1) Old Forge/Inlet

2) Adirondacks (in general)

3) Hamilton County

I was thinking about Old Forge from what I have been reading. If I went to the Old Forge area, where is a good place to stay where your sleds are safe and can ride right from the motel??

Any and all advice appreciated as I am not familar with that area at all.

Yeah, bet you guys in Central Pa. get alot of snow to ride on. You guys prolly have the best damn trails in the world right in your back yard.

Don't go by what this clown is preeching to ya. Every riding area has throttle jockies, but Old Forge area isn't as bad as areas like Tug Hill. Because Old Forge has many hotels, it makes for a great place for families to ride at. The trail system in Old Forge is the only area in NY that you have to pay to ride. They keep the trails as smooth as a baby's ass, because they groom 24/7. I hear Big Moose Inn is a nice place to stay, as well as most of the hotels in Old Forge. There are many shops and resturants to choose from. If you want to ride Tug Hill, its not that far away to another 600 miles of trails with tons more snow.

been going up to oldforge/inlet for 6 years now. Group of guys go up for a week 1st wed in january . we have always had plenty of snow to ride. We like old forge area better than tug area because more variety of bars/restaurants. Last year was the only time we had a problem with snow . Got up on wed and no snow !! by fri morning we were riding . So whta i'm trying to say is they most always have good snow. You could have nothing down in utica , ny but drive an hour north into the adirondack park and you have 2 feet !! let me know if you want any more info about were to stay or where to ride. one or the other of us has stayed or eaten just about everywhere up there.

Old Forge is a cool place. Many hotels, restaurants, services, shops and lots of night life too. If you want a "cheap" place to stay check out the KOA. It's safe and cozy.

We liked old forge so much we decided to buy a camp there. It's a great place to visit especially if you have a family. Good restaurants, cool old movie theatre, and don't miss stillwater restaurant. Here's a shot of the train tracks that are also part of the trail system.

I've been going to Old Forge for quite a few years & have never given Speculator a thought. Guess because I've never had anybody suggest the area to me. Read your post & did a google search on it. Looks like a nice area & from where I am, it appears to only be about 10 mi. farther than Old Forge. I'll for sure plan a weekend or 2 there this season.

There is a nice long loop that can be done from Old Forge to Indian Lake to Speculator and back up tracks to Old Forge again but of course the conditions have to be right

Sounds great. Now that I look at the trail map, I see where Indian Lake & Speculator are. Looks like it would be a great ride. Have to do it this season. Thanks for the info.

I really like speculator, especially the "perkins clearing" portion. Usually good conditions and real fast. Best time to go (like most places I would guess) is mid-week. Might see ya there....................... :div20:

Thanks guys! Great feedback. :div20:
When I decide when I'll be going there I'll let you know so that you can confirm conditions and if the place I'm staying at is good. :div20:
