96 stud boy 1.375" (woody's 1.325" are a little too short) power points in mine. Double pattern all in the middle. I use stud boy power plate double backers, they have rounded corners unlike the woody's doubles.

Like mogulmasher said, 96 down the middle in double backers. Studboy makes a 1.4" which is a perfect fit for the ripsaw(I have one with redtip 1.4"). I would seriously look into tall nuts even though they are only 1.4" studs. It couldn't hurt to have more protection agaisnt breaking/bending. The double backers and tall nuts is a great setup.

I always like to use WOODY'S Gold Diggers - 1.325" Start with 96 picks up the middle in a V pattern, try to keep the picks behind the lugs and offset them slightly on each set. Depends on how agressive you are, you can always pick 24 more on the outside edges (outside picks are more for turning) but you might have to go with more ski pressure and longer carbides. You start putting too many studs in and there is too much rotational mass.. Check out the woodystraction.com web site for options on studding patterns & studboytraction.com has the 96 pattern that I usually run. Lets all just hope for so much snow the that the studs dont help much.. lol

i was thinking 144 inside and outside 4-2-4-2-etc. pattern, is that any good? i was gunna use either 1.375 or 1.45 studs but would the 1.45's hit my tunnel?

I have been running woodys 1325 in my ripsaw , I think they are slightly to short and next set of studs will be studboy ..... the woodys double backer is all I would use on any studs , they stop pull outs period. tall nuts are a must if you dont want bent and broken studs ( I replace about 8 studs a season with the short nuts) . Both my 800 and 700 have 96 studs paterns all up the middle , it will slide some in corners. I had 168 in the stock xc track that was the only time I will ever do that , it turned like a freight train off the tracks even with 10" of carbide on C&A skis ! It didnt matter how I set up the skid or the front end it always had really heavy steering if you want it to turn or it would push ....

what template did you guys use for ur double stud patterns? and is 96 really enough? i think i will go with this pattern it seems like it will work good, i was thinking 1.45 studs with plastic double backers and regular nuts but with this little metal thing u put over the stud, thne tighten the nut onto it, 2 stop bending and breaking. i cant wait 2 ride!! :div20: but til then its mosty gunna be this

here is my ripsaw on the pro x. 144 1.40" extreme max studs single and doubles woodys pattern. i used the round backers on the singles to minimize the chance of a pullout. 900 miles and a few bent studs, no pullouts.

mine are the same length as the woodys 1.375". i think a little longer would be better. go with the 1.45" and tall aluminum nuts. i also drill 7mm holes instead of the 5/16" less chance of a tear out.

woody's doesn't make 1.375", they recommend their 1.325". Like xcmark I have them in a 1.25" track and they aren't tall enough...prety much useless in most conditions. I'm replacing them now as they bend/break carbide tips with SB 1.375". I know others that have run 1.45" with no problem.
Don't use plastic backers, aluminum is the way to go. :div20:

all i have heard is the aluminum is too soft of a metal and bends easy, just what i have heard... my other sled had plastic ones on it for 4115 miles and still on there and never had one problem....

TTT, anyone have any reasons why i shouldnt get plastic backers?

i havent had any problems with either. i cant possibly see an aluminum backer bending, inless its a cheap square one out of index. i have heard of plastic breaking a few times though.
