BERT
HARVEY, Mich. The state Department of Natural Resources is considering a 35-mile-per-hour speed limit for snowmobilers on a trail section that goes through a Marquette County residential area.

The four-and-a-half-mile stretch of trail in Chocolay Township runs past 111 residences, coming as close as 37 feet to some dwellings.

During a public hearing yesterday, some residents voiced disdain for the trail.

The Michigan Snowmobile Advisory Committee voted in August to oppose the speed limit, fearing it would set a statewide precedent.

The panel recommended posting a large sign announcing that 35 miles per hour was the (QUOTE) "recommended" speed.

The D-N-R could release a decision as early as January. dunno.gif

Thats a nice section of trail I would hate to see it closed after the fight it took to get it opened. If they want 35 for four miles IMO I good live with that. Because after that its WFO for alot of miles. But i do understand the worries of some about imposing speed limits.

But if it ever comes down to 35 or close the trail, I would take the 35. Again just my 2cents.
