I am currently putting a 488 fuji motor that I just rebuilt into my 1996 Indy trail which lost its motor a few years ago, for a back-up sled. I dropped the motor in last night and realized that the wiring is slightly different. Out of the flywheel housing there is the 3-pin coupler plug, and the 6-pin connector. The 3 pin goes to the CDI and the 6-pin goes into the main chassis wiring harness. No problem.

On the CDI end of the 3 pin plug there is also a seperate single wire. On my 1996 this wire was plugged into the single wire that comes from the sled end of the 6-pin connector. No problem

The problem is that the 1988 motor also has a single wire coming off of the 6-pin connector from the stator, and I do not know what it is. Does anyone know what this wire is for (is it a ground or power?.....) or if it is needed? Is there some site which will have a wiring diagram so I can figure out what the function of this wire is? I will try to attach pictures of the wire I am talking about from the Polaris Parts site.

Thanks

what color is that wire?

Brown....is it possibly an extra power? I had the motor running last night and everything seemed to work besides the back light for the speedometer, but that is likely just a bulb. I guess as long as everything is working I am not too worried about it, but it would still be nice to know what it is for. It comes out the back of one of the 6-pin terminals from the stator, and is a round plug.

I guess I could use it as the power for my heated shield??
