Why is it that all of the other New England state forum sections (including Massachusetts) have pinned threads for club related info but Maine doesn't? Is it because the majority of sledders in ME don't belong to a club and don't do trail work? Am I missing something?

someone needs to lead the charge. Richard(Oldtimer) got some good buzz going last spring and into the summer over clubs in the NH forum and it's certainly helped us out locally. I'd guess NH is the most active state forum on here right now. Although I had previously joined and made groomer fund donations because of those efforts I've spent some enjoyable days this fall walking around the woods brushing and replanking a couple of bridges.

I help my local snowmobile club every weekend. Built a few brand new bridges putting signs up clearing new trails. Its awesome being able to ride the trails I help maintain. I usually drive around the sportsman 6x6 or the kabota rtv deisal which is gonna be so fun grooming with this year. It seems like alot of the people are here are more south where the trails see very little use except by locals. Up north is where alot of people are needed to maintain the trails as they are huge and must take alot of work. The other thing is in NH there seems to be people from everywhere and where I ride it seems like there are alot more people close to the main trails where as up near jackman and oquosoc (sp) there aren't so many houses close to the trails and are mostly seasonal camps. Thats what I think as I rarely see much for full time houses in maine on the ITS trails.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CLUB AND THE CLUB THAT MAINTAINS THE LOCAL TRAILS
My dad is a part of about 10 snowmobile clubs. 3 in NH as we ride those three clubs trails. 6 in maine and 1 in canada.

Agreed, probably just need to make it happen. Hoping to spark some interest now.
I can tell you there is plenty of stuff going on with the clubs. We've had work days every weekend for the past month and will for the next month. Lots going on. If anyone is in the Bethel area and wants in on the fun, let me know.

I would like to as we ride the trails once in a long while but our clubs got their own work to do. Stupid new housing developments means we have to reroute the major (if there are really any in windham) trail around 3 of them and then still have to do clean up and alot more. Each trail will take one whole sunday and then some even with a large crew if we ever get one large enough.

Now we just need some stimulating and thought provolking discussions

I'll try and post some pix from the Trail 12 toward Rum-fud re-route we worked all last Sunday on. The new trail is going to be SWEET (as opposed to the plowed road it went up last season).

Here are the pics Couch was talking about on the new Trail 12 re-route. I've included a couple of the work photos as well as a couple of the new view! Should be a nice new trail for the winter, and will definitely get us off of the plowed road.

Yep, the trail is going to really scenic as it follows a stream for about 1/2 mile with some good views. Cutting the thing was a bear. ~15 year old skid road with some of the most dense spruce/fir/hemlock growth I've even seen. Miserable and slow going. Would have been a great job with another 4 or 5 volunteers, LOL!
Hoping to get an excavator in this week to bench and widen and then set a bridge for us.

I belong to the Muddy Rivers Sno-. club in Naples, Maine. We just got a new bridge installed over the Crooked River to avoind a dangerous road bridge crossing or a dangerous river ice crossing. 100 foot span, all steel, and kick ass.
Rebuilt a bridge that someone decided to try a burnout on with his truck :banghead: What's next you ask...more bridges of course.

great having a place to check out what you others are up to. i know just what you guys are feeling regarding being the young one in the bunch. and to take it a step further ive been around riding and grooming for 20 years but to them im just a stupid young kid. (thats alright... its the young kid who runs the groomer through the night in the middle of the week). involvedment is a problem everywhere especially with the younger riders.
those who live or ride in central maine should check out our site
http://www.angelfire.com/me3/parkmantrailblazers/ for what is up with our club. we are located just next to Guilford (Four Winds SC) and are near Dover-foxcroft/Dexter area.
we are working hard to continue to upgrade our equipment and it shows... only six years ago we had two alpines only. now we have a 5' wide AKTIV and an 1974 sno cat. things are much better now. after cowboying those alpines around with big drags behind them i really appreciate what we have. you can contact me directly via HCS.

It is the 80/20 rule....if you are lucky you get 20% of your local club members helping out while the other 80% set back and do nothing but complain. Our local club usually has the same twelve or so people doing everything which only amounts to about 10% of the membership. I went to brush trails last sunday morning an only 3 of us showed up, the sunday before that it was 2.
The state needs to double the sled registration fee to $68 and if you show a local snowmobile club membership card you pay $34. At least that way the local clubs would have some money available to subcontract out the trail work if need be.... just my two cents worth.

Maybe the clubs should actually USE this thread. If a local club would post a work day a few weeks ahead of time they might get some unexpected help. I have no idea what my club is doing and I have been a member for years. I get a letter asking for dues and that is the end of it.

Ditto oldtimer. Remember when you were 15 years old? It's all about you mr. 15 year old, off trail, totally independant KID. More and more sledders in Maine had better help out because every day our trails and rights to ride ANYWHERE are in Maine are in the balance. Chip in and ride responsably. I ride hard core off trail as much as anyone but do it with an adults brain.

I just got in from our monthly directors meeting of the Pine Tree Snowmobile Club in Milford. We got a list of all registered sleds in our 3 main towns and highlighted the members, I bet we might have 15 % joined. We are working very hard to make it appealing to join the club. We have work to do , but we also have fun things to do as well. We had a halloween party for the kids. About 60 showed up. What a turn out! Anyway, please support your local club, its the best chance we have to keep our trails open for the future.

We had over 700 sleds registered in Lewiston last season. We had 84 members.
Our club meets the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at the Ramada. 7pm. We could not ask for a nicer place to meet, and we groom to the back yard.
Trail work is 8am on Sundays. We meet at Precision Autobody on Sabattus St. We are rerouting a short section of ITS off of Main St.
Any questions or if somebody wants to meet, give me a call. 754-6666, Eric.

I agree 100% we had roughly 27 members last year of those members about 9 people were active in trail maintanence. this year I have only received about half of those memberships back so far, and have about 6 or so people that are active at this time. we are a small town in central maine but we have about 75 miles of trails to take care of. anyone in the area willing to help will be greatly appreciated and welcomed. let me know by replying to me, indy. we take care of the harmony, wellington, brighton area. thanks.

I try to get involved with my club but it seems to be more work than its worth. I work 2nd shift so I can't make meetings and only stay in the loop by email. Never get any emails on when work days are though. For the past 4 years I have been volunteering to groom with no luck. This year I bought my own groomer and asked the club to use a drag, still haven’t seen the drag yet. I know people are busy and have lives and there are other things going on but why not fill us in. I have been maintaining a trail close to my house by myself and have no problem with it, but when clubs cry no one helps and people are fighting to help and get no where, it gets discouraging.

Hello all, This is my first post, so I will try and make it short. AS the trailmaster of the Streaked Mountaineers of Buckfield, WE maintain roughly 65 miles of trail, and ITS 89 from Hebron to Hartford/Canton. We have been working straight since about mid AUG. with the same 5 people, and we are getting burned out. WE put the call out around town but with little response. Last weekend we had a great crew of 10 people repair 3 bridges on ITS89. (including the 150' suspension bridge) Right now we are getting our tucker maint. done and have 2 more bridges to rebuild. We are currently hoping that we can get more younger people involved with the physical aspect of the club (ie grooming, brushing, maintaining).
If anyone is interested, every SUN at 8am. we meet at the sled garage, next to the town high-way garage. This weekend we have to build a suspension bridge behind the Buckfield mall, and finish a small re-route to the mall.
If anyone would like to get more info or has any questions I can be reached at 207-514-4665.
thank you
