My girlfriend's father gave me two sleds, a 1981 Yamaha 440 and a 1979 AC Jag 440, but claims he never had the registration. What do you do if you never get a registration and want one? Is there any hope?

One way to know is if there are any numbers on the side of the sled...reggy numbers ??? If not, then no, they were never registered. if there are numbers it was registered at some time along the line. Go to your loval DMV, bring the numbers from side of sled if there are any, and some kind of ID that your in-laws gave them to you. They'll do a search of the last yr they were registered (if it ever was) and let ya know what to do from there....yes, there is hope.
Good luck

there is the reg #'s on the side of the motor. you will have to take a piece of paper and pencil and get a rub of the #'s. then they will have to run them and make sure the sleds were never stolen, totaled, or have any leins on them.its really not very hard

I had a similar thing with me last year I had an old sled I bought brand new in 1988 never registered because it never left our property and of course as organized as I am lost the bill of sale. I took a stencil of the serial numbers on the tunnel and had it registered like it was said earlier they run either the last know reistration or serial number to see if it was stolen or has clear title and your all set. Just call the DMV and they will explain all the details.
