Can someone give me some ideas on how to check the temp and oil lights, to make sure they are working? I pulled the float out of the oil tank last night and bottomed it out, but the light would not come on. I see there are two (2) wires off of the sending unit. I assume if I connect a jumper wire between them, it should trip the light? If it does, I assume I have a bad sending unit. I will also check to make sure the bulb is good.

I have the same thing with the temp. light. How do I check this to make sure it is operational? I assume this has something to do with the temp. sending unit on the top of the head. There is a single wire (black with white stripe, I believe) that comes off of this.

If it is an expensive fix, I don't care if the oil light works. I check the oil often enough to cover my bases here. I do want to make sure the temp. light works though.

Thanks for the help!!

I cant say I have done this before... but could you remove the temp sensor, put some aluminum foil over it, and give it a blast with a butane torch (not directly on it)... find an oven thermometer to read what temp? Radio shack has some thermometers that give you a digi reading up to 300+ degF.

Could just install a temp gauge and be done with it.. dunno.gif

I'm more interested in just verifying that the light works. I know you could warm up some water and test it with a thermometer, then use a meter to determine when the temp sensor trips. I am pretty sure I just need to ground out the temp. sensor wire to trip the light. I haven't tried it yet. I will take the chance that the temp. sensor is good. It is just that the wiring was a little messed up on this sled, so I want to make sure everything is good between the sensor and the idiot light.
